Sometimes I Just Don't Get It!

There are offensive drivers. There are defensive drivers. What I really don't get is people who willingly risk their lives and the lives of many people around them to shave a few measely seconds off their journey. Do you understand this? 'Cause I sure don't. To me it makes absolutely no sense at all. Why take a needless chance with your life for a chance to be a few seconds earlier to wherever it is your going. Is it just impatience? I'm sure it is mostly impatience. That's also why I hate tailgaters. What do you think causes these people to risk their lives as well as others'? What bothers you most about driving/other peoples' driving?

I think it is patience that has a lot to do with road rage. These people are indangering their lifes and the lifes of others.I do think there should be an anger mangement course and questions people have to fill out before been allowed to drive.Interesting discussion.

Thanks. Just trying to keep up the topics of substance ;) A lot of it is indeed patience. Most of these people don't have it and it's what causes these accidents. Most of the people hurt in accidents are caused by these types of people. Innocent people get hurt when these irresponsible people get behind the wheel.

I think people are just rude when it comes to driving these days and have no respect for the law or for other peoples lives. I also think it is too easy to get a drivers license these days and should make tougher requirements to get one and more serious punishments for breaking the law or seriously injuring or killing someone on the roads. The poor drivers bother me a lot as well.

People are always too busy and don't realise that more haste and less speed will get more done. If they overtake we still meet them at the traffic lights! An old saying is that it is better to be half an hour late than thirty years too early.

I think too many people are rude and self-centered. They don't realize or don't care that everybody has some place to be, everybody is running late for work, everybody is dealing with the icy roads, or everybody is stuck in the same traffic. You get what I mean; some people act as if they are the only ones who are inconvenienced and the only ones who matter. The more aggravated they get, the more aggressive they seem to get. It makes me crazy, but these days I don't even try to play "chicken" with them. If they want to be stupid, then I'll sit back and let them, and pray that no one gets hurt. A few of my pet peeves: talking on the cell-phone while driving, putting on makeup while driving, stuffing a Big Mac down your throat while driving, and people who approach a sign saying "right lane closed " with plenty of warning, and they continue on in the lane to try to merge in at the front of the pack, when everybody else sits in line. I never let these people in, but someone always feels sorry for them. Maybe if they sat there for 15-20 minutes, they would think twice about doing it the next time.

OMG - nail on the head re: the right lane closing statement... how many times a day I deal with these idiots would make your head turn and your stomach empty!

I'm in the same boat as you. I bicycle to work during the summer and every single day somebody takes a chance - not with their life, but with mine. And I always wonder where they are going that is so important to me that they would willingly kill me in order to get their five minutes faster. It's pretty sobering to realize that your life is worth five minutes of time to some people.

Indeed... it's so sad, and these people probably don't even realize it, whatsmore. That's the hilariously sickening part. Good luck, and safe cycling!

I think in some cases, with men mostly, it's like a competition to them. They feel the need to be the best and to win the "race." What annoys me the most is their impatience. They honk their horn for no good reason just because I'm going the speed limit, and they want to speed. It's stupid.

hey hey ;) don't lump all men into that category! But yes, I must unfortunately agree that guys are more likely to be "morons" behind the wheel due to that whole testosterone thing.

i hear you on tailgators! but you cant be defensive all the time or you'll never get anywhere!

That's not true... well not really. You can also be a neutral driver, but's always best to be neutral-defensive than offensive all the time. The only time it's even remotely okay to be fast and impatient is in emergency situations... and even then, who's to determine "what" constitutes an emergency? I sure as heck don't think making it to Uncle Fred's on time for appetizers is an emergency situation! LOL

People are terrible! We live in a rural area. Farmers and tractors. I can not count the times I have been flipped off. The highway 13 is called bloody 13. I have had to pull off the road and the other driver had to pull off the road because someone had to pass. I am driving the speed limit and obeying the law. Several years ago in the ice and snow my wife was driving and trying to be careful. She had the same 4 wheel drive pass her 3 times. It would pass and a little ways up the road it would be in the ditch and a little later here it was passing again and down the road it was in the ditch again. My wife said she would rather stay on the highway and drive that through 3 ditches.

Wow, that's a crazy story! It just goes to show you that people don't observe the weather. It's like that in Canada where I live a lot. The first snowfall of the season we have 80+ accidents in my tri-city area alone, almost consistenly from year to year. People think it's okay to drive the same as if it were sunny, dry conditions. I hate that I'm going almost 10 km/h over the speed limit and it's still not fast enough for the guy on my rear!

yes, we really cannot understand all people who drive, they just cannot be compared with each other, the best we can do is make the best out of us come out during driving and do not give in to fights.

its mainly because of the laziness of a person. doing things in advance and proper planning and time management helps one...risking others lives is inhuman and rash drivers please consider.

It can't be avoided. When someone is willingly risking other peoples lives, can you just sit back and not do anything? I know I can't. Especially when my daughter is almost always in the car with me. Are you a Vulcan from Star Trek :P Talking about how emotions are illogical... of course they are. But if controlled well enough they are an essential part of being human. I don't want to be a Vulcan! :)

I find that people who don't watch the blind spots are very offensive. Also, people who drink and drive! That's just selfish!

maybe these drivers have no respect for their own and others lives. I have a friend that drives fast cause she gets sleepy in the wheel if she is not in a hurry.
