24/12/2006...Many of us consider the option of working from home but hesitate to make up their mind due to 2 main factors --- the lack of opportunities and financial uncertainties. Tell us your hopes and fears and if you have already working from home, tell us how you made the switch or share with us your successful story of working from home.

I have experienced that many people sign up blindly on the net. They are in a hurry to make huge money overnight. They want to become rich very soon. In their hastiness they ignore to check the authenticity of the website. They ignore to check whether the websites promises are false or true. I dont say all the websites are bad. They may be good. Only time tells.
For all of my friends, and all the myLottian participants. I list herebelow certain check points before signing up any website which promises to pay u.
First of all join http://scambusters.org This website keeps on informing to its users about the scam websites. Thus they will have updated information always with them about scam websites.
Secondly, Visit the website http://brodpicks.com regularly. This website tells about the genuine paying websites and many other things about those websites.
Thirdly, Please check whether the website has given its contact address with proper location and telephone numbers. Ninty nine percent of the websites which proved to be big scam did not provide this. Doing business only on email ID, does not sound good even. There is only one percent chance of genuiness of the website if it does not provide address, phone number, fax number and other necessary details.
Fourthly, try to read the report of the Better Business Business Bureau before signing up any website which promises to pay. Most of the scam busters claim that they have clean record with BBB. It does not mean that they are true or false. It may mean that BBB might not have prepared report on that website. BBB prepares the report on any website whenever they are request to for it also.
So my dear friends, please take care of the above things while signing up with any such website which promises to pay. Dont make haste and dont take decisions blindly. I hope it helps the person who started the discussion and all other participants also.

Decision of working from home and quitting the corporate life is not an easy task. I have been running my own company form home since the last 2 years. I would say that it is still not an easy task now. Still a lot of teething problems, risks, concerns playing in my head up to now, but persistent and determination of not going back to work (going through the toughest part of 9-5, stuck in traffic jams, etc are totally unthinkable).
For me, it's more like the family and being with them started the successful story of working from home.
Although I would not deny there's some points because of crisis that push me to this level..
Anyway, I am glad with where I am today...

You are right in that many people think working from home, i.e. on the internet, will be the job of their dreams with much wealth and freedom. How wrong they are in many cases though, as they might start with high ideals but do not do the groundwork first.
For it to succeed, the person has to be well organised and accept that they will not earn the same amount over the internet as they will from an employer, ot at least this is how it is for a start. Certainly down the track the person might earn a decent living, but it takes time to build up and get active referrals who will contribute t your online earnings.
I would suggest that anyone who is considering this type of thing should first have a financial buffer zone in place so that until the income starts to come in you have money to fall back on. Without the financial buffer, the person is often tempted to go back to paid employment and will never know whether they could have succeeded because they didn't really give it a chance.
Personally I am retired but I do enjoy being on forums as it does give me an outlet for my opinions plus I can learn about other cultures and customs. I have been on non-paying forums in the past but what I earn here at myLot is great. Of course like anything else where you hope to make money, you have to be consistent and put in or there are no rewards.

Well, there was a time where I had to stay at home due to Medical issues, and had to try and find ways to make some Extra $$. There were times that I actually did OK, and then there were times I struggled. Problem is, when some of the better paying sites out there that were FREE had to close and so your Income dries up. I even tried Ebay and at times, did OK with it, and other times not so good.
I know there are many people who try working from home and end up doing OK with it, while others struggle, and not everything out there is for everyone. Right now I am doing OK from time to time with the amount of $$ I am making online but also having to work outside the home as well. I guess it is really knowing what to look for and will work the best for you.

I used to work part time about 20hrs a weeks. But after I had my baby in 2004, It was no longer possible so after my maternity leave I decided to quit all together and look after my son full time.
After few months I found myself with some extra time that made me want to work again but I don't want to leave my baby in nursery ( I thought it was too early for that), So I decided to start my own business, then I turned to eBay UK. I started trading there by selling all the stuff I don't need then I sell some cheap designer item that I bought on my holiday in Indonseia.
I really like the experience and the extra money that's why I open my own eBay shop Adam& Isla selling baby items. Fortunately I don't have to spend a lot of money for the business as I dropship most of my items and get some other items from Indonesia. It was not easy to start though as I have to do some research before I decided which product I want to sell.
But Now I'm really happy mostly because I still can work and look after my son at the same time . So for those of you who are thinking of starting your own business go for it...xx

Thank you for sharing with us your experience on working from home and congratulation on your success in this venture. I am trying my luck at ebay Malaysia since May, 2006 and have so far secured 20 sales. Am still at the learning stage about trading via ebay ,eventually when I am ready, will try to sell worldwide via ebay. I have check out few websites to try on dropship but due to the currency conversation rate (USD to Malaysian Riggit), till todate I still yet to start out .

I am a full time worker at home. I had fears in the beginning but I researched so much that I felt comfortable enough to go ahead and pursue the companies that I had researched. And I couldn't be any happier working from home making the same and many times more than I did when I worked for someone else. I work for 4 virtual call centers providing customer service support to these companies clients. Some of the companies pay per talk time others pay per hour. I work as hard or not as hard as I like. I choose my schedule which is centered around my life and not the other way around. I can honestly say that I have made the right decision to quit my fulltime job to pursue working from home online. I would not trade it for the world.

I am a 100% online worker and I can say it is not an easy journey. I have to sacrifice time and a lot of energy on searching and doing routine jobs every day. But I always stick to one philosophy: Never give up. There is a HUGE potential in online business.
By the way, my dear friend smartnrich and myself have just created an Exclusive Club for Mylot Malaysian members... if you want to join, feel free to pm me whenever you want. I will give the url to you. There are many benefits if you join this club. One of it is to increase referrals.
This club has just been launched so now is the right time to sign up as early bird members.
Check it out!

thank you for responding but your answer is irrelevant to my discussion and do you know that you are not allow to promote your referral link in discussion ? Pleae read the "guideline" of Mylot, it will help you to avoid violating the discussion/ posting rules and risk of facing your account being cancelled and earning forfeited.

For me if you want to start your online business you need to have a saving in your bank for early step before you will be establish.Or the other option, good for us if we have off line business as a main business and the online is our 2nd business. But if you are already establish, we no need to worry anymore about our income.

Hi asimo603
My post would be way too long if I shared my horror stories from working at home, work from home schemes, etc... My husband and I have invested LOTS of money over the past 6 years, actually came to our senses about 3 years ago, so we are still paying old debt.
I now own a Fitness Center and have been an Herbalife rep for over 6years now. I love what I do :o)
To help pay off the old debt (around $65,000 :o(
I joined a forum called www.sohojobs.org and currently work for 2 companies that posted jobs and hired me!
I make an extra $800-$1000 a month around my 50 hour work week and find this to be a real blessing!
I can finally see the light at the end of a dark tunnel thanks to the job postings on sohojobs.org
Best to you dear ~
