Yes, many great people had experienced the same thing. Even sachin was not selected in school cricket team first time.but, he is the no.1 batsmen in the world.
I agree that failure is the first step of success. failure shows our weakness & the part where we should get better.

Its true; sometimes our biggest drawbacks bring the best in us :) We should not think that the world ends at failures; we can learn from our mistakes and keep trying till we finally succeed.
