anybody had a dog from battersea dog home & not sure about its history?

I got a dog from the home about 3yrs ago but when they brought him along to show me he seemed a bit dishevelled,when i asked where he came from the officer said he was brought in with a batch of 9or10 others.According to her the owner had died & they were discovered later,he allegedly had to be quarantined due to a bout of kennel cough,but he never exhibited any ill effects when i gothim home.He is a very healthy dog & well looked after,but the thing that puzzled me most at the time was when i got all the papers for his release the vet made a comment that i still feel perplexed about!has anyone any suggestions as to why something like this might occur?
