Freemason is a secret fraternity of ‘masons’ whose roots are found way back in ancient Jewish doctrine linked with construction of King Solomon’s Temple. In the middle Ages the stone-masons and cathedral builders evolved a secret fraternal order to maintain pristine religious purity coupled with universal moral standards. Almost from its inception, Freemasonry encountered considerable opposition from organized religious orthodoxy, especially of the Roman Catholic Church, and from various states as well. For fear of persecution and to maintain the doctrine’s purity, the brotherhood kept their operations extremely secretive. The cryptic teachings and practices, however, spread and made it the largest worldwide secret society.
