It really boils down to the product itself. Some things are made in China but labelled with a Japanese brand, so got to be clear about that. Anyhow, China is catching up on the technologies, so their goods are getting better in quality as well. Japanese goods are sometimes of bad quality, just that the branding, image and packaging makes consumers think that it is of a better quality.

I am a chinese from singapore and i'm sad to admit that for most goods, especially electronic goods, made-in-china equals inferior quality and made-in-japan equals superior quality, all goods being genuine from the countries of origin. Of course, one can't deny that the price of a china product is only a fraction of that from japan. So there's a trade-off. These days, I read many reports about unscrupulous manufacturers from china faking milk powder, adding toxic chemicals to eggs and mushrooms to make them look expensive, etc, and I'm more skeptical about buying china products.

Japanese products are made to last longer compared to that of Chines products. Nippon Ichiban. But the real deal here is the question of who makes better products, the koreans or the japanese?
