probably it should be brief but underline the most important points such as the right skills for the job and grammaticaly correct.

The key is to bear in mind to bring about the best of you through writing, formatting and clarity. Avoid spelling and grammatical mistakes as that gives a very bad impression to the reader, who is ultimately your prospective employer. Check out samples of resumes and covering letters in sites.
