You remember that one episode where he is doing clinic hours and he is talking smack to this mom while he has a frog puppet on his hand? He's speaking in his brilliant American accent and then all of a sudden he looks at her daughter and says, "Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit," in a thick British accent! I think it was so funny and cute! He's got the words down but animal sounds come out as instinctual.
I know he had an improv show back in England and his characters were rather gruff, similar to House.
He likes riding a motorcycle in the States because the helmet gives him anonymity. He hates being recognized for his fame and doesn't get why we all like him. His wife and family are still in England.
His young daughter was in the movie Wit and played Vivian's 7-year-old self when she had a flashback of her dad. He is also best friends with the lady who played Vivian - Emma Thompson. They go way back.
He went to college just to be on the rowing time and I think he studied anthropology but didn't care about it one bit.

I love House. I remember seeing him on I think either Leno or Letterman when he was talking about his role in House and he said it was really hard to pronouce words with "r"s in them.

I have no idea of what you're trying about. House has been a show with a big budget ever since the beggining, a more than decent cast and an amazing plot to be represented, so it never got to be "less great" when it started or anything like that. Don't make up stuff.

1) I'm aware he's british.
2) I know he didn't enroll in any major acting courses or so, but I think he has some bases.
3) I don't think he has all that much time for those anymore anyhoo :)
4) That one is totally new, I suppose.
5) Yeah, I've read that one too.

I must admit that I knew all of those things as well as this little tidbit: Hugh Laurie also has a series of british comedy skits called "Wooster and Jeeves." I personally have never seen them but a friend of mine watches them all the time and tells me that they're hilarious. As much as I love Mr. Laurie, everytime I see him in his natural british accent state I innerly cringe because I love the character of Greg House so very much!
I don't know how much truth is in it, but I read today on here somewhere that the characters of Cameron and Chase on "House" are engaged in real life! Isn't that sweet!

He's really good at hiding his accent. I can't remember the movie he was in, but he sounds strange when he speaks with it.

yeah...in an inteview he admitted that he indeed had a difficult time adjusting its accent....and he even prepared only for a few months stay in new york because he thought the program would not last this long(now in its 3rd season?)

There is a lot of information on his wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Laurie
I didn't know he was on Blackadder, but then again I haven't seen much of the show. I think I should.

My favorite things about Hugh Laurie are the bit parts he's played here and there. He was in an episode of Friends, which I thought was cool. And he was in The Man In The Iron Mask for about 2 minutes, which I thought was cool. You look at all these big actors, but you don't think about where they came from or how they got to the place that they're in now.. and I think it's neat that before House M.D.. he played bit parts on huge shows.
