I'm hoping to get some tips and tricks on buying your first home. My husband and I are planning to buy our first home in the near future. We have looked at a couple of homes, but so far its either we love the house and dislike the area or hate the house and love the area. The main thing is alot of the houses in the area are overpriced, and it doesn't seem like the resale value is the best. What are the basics? Main things to look for, etc. Any information may be helpful. Thank you in advance for your response.

One of the most important basics is to avoid creative financing at all costs. Don't do one of those interest only loans, and don't get anything that has to be refinanced after 10 years. Alot ofpeople get mortaged right out of their homes that way. Stick with a standard 30 fixed rate loan. Next, if you can find something decent on a large lot you are really lucky. With a large lot you can build add-ons so that you can live there for the rest of your lives...all the way through grandkids. If you can wath HGTV do it. They have great ideas on things you can do yourself and that saves reams of money. There is also the satisfaction of making a place reflect yourperonality, with your ownhands. Good Luck!
