If you dug a hole through to the centre of the earth.....

At what stage would you stop digging down and actually start digging up? I have spent many a night deliberating over this and still can't work it out? (and we are discounting the fact that molten lava etc would consume anybody that tried!)

I don't really know why I would dug a hole through the center of the earth. But to answer your question, you would start digging up when you have reached the center. They say that when you are in the center of the earth, the gravity is zero (0) Newton (the measure of force). So when you start feeling light, that means there is no more gravity pulling you and after you start feeling heavy again, that is the time you have passed the center of the earth and the time you would start digging up!

Yes absolutely I agree with this. The Law of Attraction (or rather The Law of Gravity) states that everything is being pushed together towards its center. I was actually going to say that you wouldn't be able to get away from the center as there is zero gravity and you would just float. So unless someone else pushed you, you would be stuck! If you ever try it let me know! Tim

Thank you to both of you for contributing to this question! I posted it a long, long time ago and was hoping that someone would! The explanation you have provided makes a lot of sense. It is still somewhat of a mind mess though trying to picture what would actually happen physically to you at the centre point. Thanks for responding.

I like Mr. MillionaireAnonymous responses. It actually made me laugh and think about it. When you are at the center of the earth were there is no gravity, it's like floating nowhere. On whether you will get away or not would depend on the width of the hole you have dug. Of course, if the hole is just narrow you can grab the wall or something to keep you from not floating. Thanks for the best response!
