Has anyone else taught their cat to use the toilet?

Yes, it is possible!! I saw it on Meet the Parents and googled it. Surprisingly, I found a lot of information on it! There is even a commercial product out there called Citikitty that claims to toilet train cats. I am quite sure that it is effective, however, I went a cheaper route and used a simple mixing bowl large enough to fit inside my toilet bowl, and started from there!! I just wonder how many others out there have tried, successfully or not, to toilet train their cats! :)

I've known it was possible and always wanted to try. I'm not so sure about how successful I'd be now with our current batch of kitties. One is our "special needs" boy. He's, well, dumber than a box of rocks. But we love him anyway! :) Our girl is just loony, so I don't know if she'd be able to get it or not. Our other boy is very, VERY smart and I'm sure he'd know what we WANTED him to do... but we have to leave the lid down all the time because he thinks the toilet is his personal play pool. I sure wouldn't want him pooping and then playing in it! :(

Eek! I know what you mean about playing in his own poop. I do notice Racer playing in the toilet water but he never does it when his wastes are in it. I think it will be very difficult for you to train your smart kitten just for the fact that there are other kittens in the household. When I was living with my friend during the summer, Racer reverted back to the litter box almost immediately because my friend has a cat who is not toilet trained. Once I got back to my apartment, I was scared Racer wouldn't use the toilet, but he had no choice. Hehe :)
