Before Mount Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain on earth?

it is k2 or mount G\godwin-austen 28,250 ft (8,611 m) high in the karakorum range, Nn kashmir, on the china-pakistan border

It was still Mount Everest! But it was then known as Mt Qomolangma which is its Tibetan name.... Maybe we should start calling it that also? Much the same as Ayers Rock in Australia is now called by its Aboriginal name Uluru.....
