Do you belive in the statement "the more you hate, the more you love"??

It just happened that a lot of people always say that they hate me, I am just wondrin if they really hate me or they just love me, can anyone tell a good proof that this is a true statement.

I really do think that is true, my girlfriend is telling me that she hates me before, but look at us now, that the only way they express their love, at first you will feel you hate them but the real feeling is you actually love that person
