Death and Dying: If you could chose the age and why...

I proudly announce that I do NOT want to live to be 100! Even with all the medical advancements and technological changes happening within my lifetime, I have no desire to live beyond 75. I figure if I haven't saw and done everything I've wanted to by the time I'm 75, it's my own fault. Besides, I don't think I'd want to be an old-old person in today's society, let alone 27 years from now. Nope, 75 is old enough for me. I've been telling my family and friends for years that I will die when I'm 75. They laugh and say "What are you going to do? Kill yourself?" I look at them seriously and say "Nope, I'm just going to go to sleep one night and that will be it." Nice, easy and peacefully. Then I get the look - ahuh, okay. Won't they be surprised come 2034...

I am only 32, so the thought of dieing scares me royally. I have 3 failing grandparents now, 89, 87 and 85. It is hard to see what is happening to them. I guess part of me would want to save my family this sorrow, but part of me would want to spend as much time with them as possible. I guess since they are all mid to late 80s there are some good genes in my blood, so a long life might be in my future.

I dont think I want to be all old and wrinkly either but I know I would like to see my children for as long as possible. I just hope I will be a healthy elder. Thats why its so important to take care of your body now.
