Cats and Christmas!

I was about ready to kill some cats this year (not really, just figuratively speaking!) Put the tree up and they had to attack and chew on the tree. Put the presents out and one cat in particular had a blast taking the bows off, ripping the paper off and chewing on the boxes! Arrrrggghhh!!! Why do I have pets again?! LOL Wouldn't get rid of them for anything, but gosh they can be so aggravating sometimes?!

Thats funny, my cat Montana.. he does the same thing I worry about him so, he actually likes to bite the light bulbs on my christmas tree, and my dog loves to knock the ornaments off an crush them... So I have to lock my cat up when we are not home and my X-mas tree is protected by the kiddie gate. The things you do for your pets...lol

I have had cats all my life. I cannot remember a Christmas where I didn't have a "cat problem" to deal with. This year I came home from work one day to find little pieces of glass all over the house. They had knocked one of the ornaments off and broke it. Then rolled it everywhere leaving pieces of it where ever it went. Also, my older cat became fascinated with one bow that was on one of my grandsons presents. She left all the other ones alone but everytime I reattached this one to the gift she would pull it off.

Oh no! What a mess to clean up? Just one bow? At least it was just one! LOL Thanks for sharing.

we had to keep spraying our tree with cat repellent and by two days after christmas we had to take the tree down because not even that was working. She was just being a total brat. But then again she is so cute that you hate to punish her or yell. She did give me a good scare though, she shattered one of the glass balls from the tree and when I came in she was gnawing on the broken glass and trying to eat it as I was sweeping it up!

I know the feeling. I don't have decorations etc. because of my cat. All that stuff is at my mother's place and her half dog half wolf doesn't go near them, all her cats are barn cats.

At least your mother's pets don't mess with them? Thanks for sharing.

Our kitten, Stanley had a blast demolishing our tree! Fortunately I only put up the little tree this year. He made a "nest" in it, and slept half way up the tree most of the time. Little brat!

Wow, your cats really were causing some havok! I'm sorry that they were misbehaving and causing so many problems around Christmas. But I'm sure that they are loveable cats and that in a few days you will wonder how you ever wondered why theyh are in your life! *laugh*

Ah, yes. I have been through this before as well. Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of a cat batting an ornament down the hallway. And then you look at the tree to find another cat sitting under it, posing as a present. The other cat is hiding behind the tree, looking guilty and hoping you'll scold the other two and blame it all on them.

LOL hence why I stop putting up a tree. It was only a table 4 foot high tree but after falling asleep on the couch and having it fall on my head a few times I got fed up and put it away. The joys of living with cats. LOL

I put up the tree and decorated it. In just a few hours the cat had knocked off almost all of the ornaments, broke a few and was napping in the tree. I decided not to put the ornaments back on so we had a plain tree this year.

I gave up ornaments too. Our tree is a fiber optic with lights and that's it. Thanks for sharing.

Cats are curious by nature and sooo adorable. They are great at rearranging the ornaments, totally destroying the ornaments, and batting the ornaments all over the house so the entire house will have that Christmas feeling. They are pretty good at opening presents too. If I could only get them to help me wrap the presents!!

Are you really *sure* you want them to help?! Thanks for sharing.

Ha ha... I can only laugh at the thought of cats and Christmas. It is the same at our house, as the cats always have to know what is going on. "What are you wrapping?" "Is it for me?" "Do I get the box?" "Come on, I want the box." "Well fine... even if you don't give me the box now, when you turn your back I am getting in it." Cats are fun to have around, but I am right there with you, in that they can aggravate you to no end if you are trying to get something done.

We have six cats. No tree for Christmas (mainly because of tiny house). But I have been contemplating putting one up. I have considered putting an eyehook in the ceiling and tying the top so it couldn't be pulled over. When they aggravate you, just do what I do - pick them up and kiss them all over their little faces. HEHEHHE

I think hanging one from the ceiling may be a good idea....until they figure out they can leap up onto the tree and run up it!! LOL Thanks for sharing.

In addition to tree destruction my cats were urinating under the tree! My solution was to surround the bottom of the tree with a decorative garden fence. The type of short fence one uses to edge a flower bed, about a foot high. It worked!

My older cat would sleep under the tree until the gifts were placed underneath. She then slept to the side. My kitten would bat the ornaments. I was truly worried that she would pull the end of the garland and send the tree toppling down. She does take off the the Nativity scene. They are 1 1/2" tall and she thinks they are hers. When all the gifts had been placed under the tree she climed into the pile. I would imagine her saying "ha ha, catch me if you can!"
