Spamming Interests by posting unrelated discussions

Call me picky but I'm get annoyed when I see people posting disucussions that have nothing to do with the Interest group they are tagged to...
Want to see what I mean, check out the discussions that are being added in the myLot.com group. A quick glance at the last 20 will show that at least 10% to 20% have nothing to do with mylot. That is in addition to the other spammy messages talking about how many posts someone has and what not...
In my opinion, people are doing this to abuse the large user base of that Interest in hopes of soliciting more comments (and generate higher earnings).
How and why?
When you post something in an Interest group it shows up in everyone's "Discussions from my interests" section. Since myLot.com seems to be the biggest group, it seems the most common group/interest to abuse in this manner.
In my opinion we need to stop this. By putting discussions in the wrong categories you are detracting from the site. Even if it is a worthwhile and well thought out discussion, dropping it in the wrong section creates clutter/spam.
Does this clutter bother anyone else or am I just being anal about it? Should users be punished for repeatedly abusing the Interest feature? Is it worthy of a negative rating? Does anyone else fear the lack of organization/structure of forums here hurts this site and might cause problems with its long term growth and readership?

I agree. Sometimes I look at post and the tags that are with it and think to myself "WTF?" Half the time there is nothing even remotely related between the posts and the tags, or someone will add an "s" as if that creates a different tag.

Tell me about it... There has been some guy posting a number of articles lately about cricket matches all under the mylot.com interest group. What does cricket have to do with mylot??? I'm not sure. Then again, I don't know that much about cricket. : )

Will it get them kicked off though? I'm not sure that I've seen anything in the rules directly about intentionally misclassifying discussions.

My lot is getting very popular. If they hgaven't thought of doing somehing already chances are they will be soon. I have seen a bunch of complaints about it and I know people report the spammers. If mylot wants to continue to grow they will at least make an effort to get ride of people who do that.

Thanks for commenting. I typically do the same, as in I usually post in general. I have made a few exceptions, but that is only when the topic specifically has to do with that Interest group...
