In my family, we just called the grandparents Grandma & Grandpa, Granny & Pappy, or Nanny & Grampa, depending on the side of the family. In my husband's family, it's Granny & Papaw or Mamaw and Papaw. But, some families end up with the grandparents having really silly or funny names, usually because the kids make them up for a variety of reasons... I heard of one family where the little girl calls her grandmother "Banana" because the woman wanted to be called "Nana" but the child heard "Banana"... and that's what she has been ever since. Please share any funny names that are used in your family or that you've heard about in other families! :)

Most of the grandparents in my family are the typical 'Grandma ____' or 'Grandpa ____'. However, my children call my maternal grandma 'Shampoo' or 'Grandma Shampoo'. This is because way back when my oldest was first learning to talk, he temporarily called my mom 'Ma-moo' My grandma, hearing this, decided that she would be called 'Shamu(like the whale)' just to be funny. Well, my son heard this once and started calling her Shampoo. And the name has stuck. My 3 other children have always known my grandma as Shampoo!

I just love how kids process language... they hear exactly what THEY want to hear and not what we necessarily tell them. Shampoo! Soooo cute! Your grandma is a wonderful sport and sounds like she has a great sense of humor.

My kids have called my parents Honey and Papa. My grandmother was G.G. (great grandma) to them. I called my grandfather Bumpa. Oddly enough I've heard other kids call their grandmother "Honey" and also just recently heard of someone calling their grandfather Bumpa! It is funny the names we use!

Well my grandparents on my mothers side had all passed away before I was old enough to be around them and remember them. And well my dads were just grandma and grand pa. But now we get to my hubbys grand parents....lol Nanny and Papa Toad I don't know how he got that name but is funny. Because of his name now there are toad statues in his yard and in the house is cute tho. He does remind me of an old bullfrog...giggles. My one nephew couldn't say Aunt Terry when he was lil so was called aunt fuey....lol

Meemaw and Pop-pop are the most unusual names in our family. we also have nanny, paw paw, grandma, grandpa.
My children call one of their aunts Auntie Foo (which is not her real name!), but then she encouraged them to call her that.

When my kids were very young, one of my mom's neighbors was sort of jealous because my mom had grandchildren and she didn't. So, we made her kind of an "honorary grandmother" to make her happy. We thought the kids could call her "Nana Marie"... but my daughter came out with "Nanaree" and it stuck. The woman LOVED it! LOL She even got other kids calling her by that name!
