Does BIG population really affect country's economy situation?

Birth controls are being promoted in our country. Does big population really affects our economy or there is just less production than really needed. But, why in US, population is high too but that country prosper in every aspect??? Is there a problem with our government?

Imagine a country that has a minus population. Here in Greece we have a problem with that.
