There might be something missing from his diet. That is what I heard one old timer tell me once. Also the removal will tend to stifle that habit that it can become. Good luck with handful you have. They are a joy however take so much care at times.

Hi! I don't know if it's normal, but my sister's dog, a golden retriever, used to eat the cat poop out of the litter boxes. Eewwwww! I guess dogs are just strange! :-)

i haven't observed this from puppies but sure this is normal for mommy dogs, they even lick the poop hole to stimulate defecation.
to prevent your pup from doing this, you should clean up his poop right after he drops some, a little tedious though but i guess but maybe it'll work

That usually happens when there is something lacking in their diet. Some dogs never grow out of this problem. Using a pooper scooper is great in your own yard. But when you can take the pup out into the neighborhood, there is so much temptation for him. Talk to your vet as you need to nip this in the bud. This is not normal behaviour.

Puppies do this sometimes. They usually grow out of it. Be very careful - this can cause worms! You can buy powder to give to him. It's supposed to make the poop taste bitter(can't imagine it's good in the first place!) so they stop eating it.

It's called copraphagia, all dogs tend to be poop eaters, I suggest pick it up, don't let him eat strange poop, it can lead to a whole host of parasites and diseases.
