Do you still call your mom "momma" or "mommy"

United States
December 26, 2006 3:59pm CST
I do sometimes, usually when I'm on the phone, like "Hey, mommy, it's me" or "Okay, mommy, I love you, I'll call you next weekend". I don't think it's a big deal or babyish, my mom is my whole world and since I'm adopted she doesn't really have to put up with me, either, which is the cool thing (she has way more patience than I would have, if our roles were switched!). I love my mommy!!!

i never call my mom through her real name. i call my mother mommy. it's a word of endearment from me to her. it's a sign of respect saying that i look up at her as a mother and a friend.

I haven't called my mom "mommy" for a long time (though my 21 year old sister still does lol) but I do still call her "momma".

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only 20-something that calls her mother "mommy". :)

I think that the form to call is not so that it makes the people if to feel loved, but aim the way who we demonstrate our love it.

I hope they don't either. I think kids should always be close to their parents, they are the best gift ever!

What language is that? I'm curious how to say "mom" in different languages (like "amma" in Hindi).

I've seen this a couple times now - so "mom" in Hindi or in India is "amma" - how do you pronounce it, is it the same "ah-mah" kind of sound like "omma" in "momma"???

Well I call my mom "Mamma" instead of mommy, but quess still means the same. Since she is in germany I quess if I called her mommy she would look at me like I am crazy, but thats just because she don't know better. Come to think my son never calles me mommy. I though one day he did and i about hit the floor, I thought it was funny. Just because I did not expect it from him. ;-)

Is it different in your culture that you don't say "Mommy"?? I am just curious you said she'd look at you like you were crazy because she is in germany.

That's sweet you call her mommy when you want her to smile, I hope that means you call her mommy all the time b/c you want her to smile all the time. I call mine mom, too, sometimes, usually when I'm annoyed with her, that's mean I know, I save the special name for when I'm happy with her.

I sure hope your like 14 years old. If not, I can't believe this topic is the only thing on your mind worth talking about.

Actually, smartie pants, I'm 24, what's wrong with that? And I had just gotten an email from my mom when I brought this up, she was on my mind at the time. If you'll notice, I had about 6 or 7 other topics going at the same time, so it's not "the only thing on my mind worth talking about".

I think that the adoption is the biggest form of demonstration of love for the people who one possoa can make, and thinks that when you dâ love to somebody without having I tie with it it is very better of the one than to love the people who we know.

I call my mom shmo. It's a little nickname my brother gave her and now it has just kind of caught on. We have been calling her this for about 5 years now. We also call my grandmother grandshmo. I think pet names are really nice to have for the people that you love.

:) That's nice, what does it mean, if I can ask? I like that, "grandshmo". Remember "Marmee" from Little Women? I always thought that was a nice thing to say to your mom.

I dont call my mother as Mommy, or Momma. I call her Amma (indian Style). Sometimes i call her by name , her name is Yashodha. When i feel like teasing her, i call her Yashoda. She runs behind me to hit me. I love that when mom does that. I miss my mom, as she stays in a different city.

:) I understand how your mom feels, she wants to be your mom not be called by her first name! If I ever came home and called my mom "Linda" (her name) she'd probably swat me too. I know how you feel about your mom, missing her. I live about 4 hours from my mom and it seems like I never get to see her, only about 6 or 7 times a year.

"Mom" is what I call my mother. Funny, though. She sometimes calls my grandma "mommy" or "ma". And one of her sisters calls their mom "mother". I would never call my mom "mommy" in a million years..

Don't worry about it, my mom yells at me all the time! But I know she loves me, and she usually only yells when I do something really bad (like when I dropped a 1/2 semester of college, when I quit a job and just walked out, etc). My mom's spent the last 14 years of my life trying to turn me into a good person and a "young lady" or whatever, she hates to see me screw it up now I'm on my own.

I get like that too, I call her at least once or twice a week. My fiance said once, "you're always on the phone with your mom!" and I said, "yeah, she's my MOM~!!!!". You can't ever forget about your mom, esp. one who takes care of you even when she doesn't have to (I was adopted when I was 10).

Yes, I still call my mother mammy - the way I did as a little child. And I think it affirms, to my mother, my love and devotion to my mother.

Yes, I do. I don't see nothing wrong with that. I still call my dad, daddy! They know I want something then! =) Adoption is a gift, I love that! I am glad you have that relationship with your mom.
