I went to the doctor when i had been on the needle for a year. he had informed me that i should not stay on it for more then 2 years or i would develop osteoporosis. I was very angry to find that out after being on the needle for a year. why couldnt he have told me that before i had even began taking it. I even asked him before i got on depo if there were any side eefects or things i should worry about and he said no maybe just a little weight gain. I have been on it now for almost 2 years but i just missed my last shot. and dont think i'm gonna get it. do any of you use depo provera? is there any other good birth controls i can take? besides the pill because i can never seem to remember to take them at the same time each day.

I believe doctors have just discovered that depo can cause osteo after 2 years. I was called into the doctor when they learned this and said I had to go off it and go for a bone scan. After the bone scan came back negative she said I could go back on it but chose not to. I was not on it for birth control as my husband has been snipped. I was on it because it eliminated period and my periods were very painful. There are some new birth control methods out there. The doctor showed me some. But I have decided to go without and see how it goes as I am nearing peri-menopause so my body is changing. Hopefully someone else will come along and give you some other ideas. But don't be mad at the doctors. They just found out.

I was on Depo for about 2 years. I stopped getting the shots whenever I started hearing all of the warnings about it. It made me very moody and I also gained weight on it.

Well after the birth of our 3rd child, my husband had a vasectomy. So thankfully, I don't have to worry about birth control anymore. I also used the patch before he had the vasectomy but I stopped using it because of the blood clot risk. I'm not sure about birth control pills becuase I've never taken them. There is this new birth control called Nuvaring. I don't know much about it though. It's fairly new here in the US.
