If you could have 3 people to dinner.....

From the past or present who would they be and why?
My choices:
Robin Williams - For the funny factor.....
Dalai LLama - For spiritual enlightenment.....
Albert Einstein - Probably eccentric and could learn something! (would be interesting to hear his views on the modern world also!)

I have decided to dig people's old discussions and surprise them.
I would like to have dinner with Aristotle, Jawaharlal Nerhu(India's first prime minister) and Marco polo the explorer.
Aristotle would talk at lenght about just anything under the sun. That will be interesting.
Jawaharlal Nehru was actively involved in Indian freedom struggle. There are still some mysteries surrounding Indian independence. I beleive he has some insider information.
Marco Polo would have several anecdotes to recount from his journeys. Its been a dream of mine to travel the world.Would like talking to him.

It sure does become a surprise when things like this happen and you see your old discussions pop up! This was the first discussion I ever started I think and that was 3 years ago! You have some great dinner guests lined up there and you'd end the evening far wiser for the experience that's for sure! Thanks for the response loudcry and when I get the chance, I'll try to find your discussion related to times in history. I have a heck of a work day ahead of me, but I'll get there!

Can I please have more than 3 people, James? And I promise that I'll do all the cooking and cleaning, but I don't think I would need to do any of that anyway, lol! I would like to have dinner with the Cullen family and Van Helsing, (just in case those vampires acted badly), lol. I would also like to have dinner with my father and grandpa, grandma from both sides, just to mix things up, lol. This would be an interesting dinner, because I have vampires, a vampire killer and a few Ghosts!

You can have as many people as you like, it's YOUR dinner! This is certainly an interesting combination of guests! If things got out of hand, the meal could be ruined. But then again, it's only you and Van Helsing that actually eat, so maybe it wouldn't cause that much of a mess at all! Good luck deciding what drinks to offer everybody!

My choices: Bill Gates, for god's sake, he is still alive. If he just threw me some money, that would be great, haha
James72: For the funny factor and it is my honour, lol
My supervisor: Professor Chou. I am so proud of being his student.
Have a great day!

Three years ago? So James, would you pick the same 3 people as you did 3 years ago?
I'd probably pick my mom and 2 of my grandparents actually. I miss my mom and I didn't get to know any of my grandparents well at all.
Can I pick 3 more next week?

If I was to pick non-family people, yes I would pick the same ones I think! But now that I've been away from home for so long, my 3 choices would definitely be family members because it's been such a long time since I've seen them and I miss them so much. Thanks for the response Dawn and you can pick a new 3 every day if you like! Your Mom and Grandparents is a great start too.

I think Ricky Gervais is fantastic, but unfortunately not many people I know seem to share the same enthusiasm for his humour. I'm glad to read that you're a fellow fan of his! I hope to God that Jane Goodall showers before she arrives too. As for the voices in your head combined, I'm relieved you chose to group them into one human form, otherwise you'd need to rent a friggin' stadium!

Wow! If you had all three of these people to dinner you'd either choke on your food while laughing so hard, or you'd never get to eat anything in the first place for the very same reasons! I've always love Robin Williams humour too. He's so very quick and makes up a lot of his stuff as he goes along. I wouldn't be surprised if his IQ were WAY off the charts!

Yes it is! I'm amazed to be seeing it myself to be honest. I can thank Ms Loud for reviving it! You are most welcome at my dinner, of course! Just don't forget to bring a bottle of something! Just the one bottle will be fine too as I doubt the Dalai Llama will be having any.

Ms Loud keeps many things revived around here. What would this place be without her?
Why, thanks for allowing me to crash your dinner party. I'll bring a bottle of Pinot Nior and a smiling face.

Ooooh a Pinot! Good choice. The smiling face will come in handy too as I'm sure that Albert Einstein will probably need a little warming up first and we can't rely only on Robin Williams to get him happy!
And yes, Loud most definitely keeps things interesting to say the least! She's a great lady, a hacek of a lot of fun; and most importantly, calls things how she sees them and I've always liked that in a person!

Oooooh old is gold! However did this get sent tothe garbage?
I would invite my mother, my sister and my son.
My mother is 90 now and will never come to Italy again I fear.
My sister is in USA.
My son is here in Italy.
I have this horrid fear that they will never all see each other again. My son was in UK two years ago and went to my mothers with his wife. They were newly-weds then. My mother turned 90 last year and my sister and I went and it was the first time in four years that my sister had been home and the first in six that I saw her.
Make this come true James, please

I think that if we were to all think deeply about it, most of us would actually feel the same way! It's just not always the immediate thought that comes to mind by everyone when asked a question like this. Although it seems to be an impossibility from your own description, I do hope that somehow, somewhere, the universe may provide a most welcome surprise and bring you all together once more. Maybe you and your son going to your Mum or something? One can always dream and sometimes these dreams become realities!

Over three years ago, the very first responder to this discussion also said they'd invite three members of their family. I think this is great! Most of us immediately think of some celebrity or significant icon from history as our most prized guests. Choosing members of your own family, says a lot about you AND your family. We should all be so lucky! Given the distance between you all and the circumstances of each of you, I can imagine that this would be one of the most emotional dinners in history! Thanks for the response mysdiana.

Indeed I saw all the responses but I knew what mine was before and after reading them.
It just will never happen and these people are more important to me than, with all due respect, all the other 'famous names' who are just that, only names, to me.

Well, I wasn't here three years ago, so this discussion is brand new to me! Let's see.....one would be David Bowie, just so I could hear his voice, as it makes me swoon.....another would be the guy who started the company called Poo Pots because I find him fascinating, and I think the other would be Louise Erdrich, my favorite author. I like this discussion, James!

It's brand new to me all of a sudden too nova! lol. Goodness me, I think this may be the first ever discussion I started on here! David Bowie's an interesting choice! As for Mr Poo Pots, well I'm kinda speechless on that one and all I can say really is that it's probably best that you ask him questions AFTER the meal! And Louise is a good choice too. It's the perfect balance of 2 men and 2 women as well, just in case things get frisky! LMAO. I liked this discussion too at the time by the way, but as you can see, only 1 person liked it also all the way back then! lol.

Dreaming makes our world a better place nova! Dream away..... I know the TV show "Dirty Jobs" and I think the host is great! I never saw the episode with the Poo Pot guy though! The things people come up with while taking a dump! Amazing! I have not read any of Louise Erdrich's works, no, but I have come across her name before. She's a Native American right?

Well then, I'd say that the current members are SMARTER than they were three years ago, darlin.
The Poo Pot guy was on an episode of "Dirty Jobs", a great show here in the States. This guy is a farmer, with tons of cows, and he takes their poo, puts it through all manner of machines and things, and makes these biodegradeable plant pots that dissolve into the earth, enriching it and whatever you plant in it. And he built EVERYTHING himself! He's absolutely an amazing and terribly brainy sort o' dude, trust me! I was absolutely fascinated, if not a little bit grossed out, by what he does. He'll soon have his pots available on line, and I certainly intend to buy some when he does. Louise Erdrich is wonderful - I don't know that you've read her, but she is my fave. And David Bowie, mmmmm, love him to pieces. Even his speaking voice makes me swoon. I'd so love to meet him........Ah well, I can dream, can't I?

Well you would be my first choice James (I consider you 'from the past' because this discussion in 3 years old!LOL) because I want to see what that avvy of yours can do when it's unfurled (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, lol)
My second choice would be Edgar Allen Poe because we have so much in common...... and Graham Norton so we could all get together on his tv show and have our 15 minutes of fame.

Whoo hoo, 2 dinner dates in a row! I'm makin' out like a friggin' bandit! And don't you worry about my avvy! It's a chameleon remember, so we can turn it into any shape ya want! Edgar HAS to recite The Raven, OK? And as for Graham Norton, fine! But if he starts gettin' all cocky, I have first dibs on smacking 'im one!

Way cool about the avvy (stop, that tickles! lol)
As for Edgar, yes of course he must recite the Raven.
I get second dibs on smacking Norton as I'm constantly smacking him in my mind when I watch him! LOL
And then we'll have Edgar write a story about where we buried him. Poor Graham! LOL
I get first dibs on the royalties to the story though! ROFL

I'm prepared to give up on the royalties if it means I get the first Norton smack! A Poe poem about the event is not a bad idea too!
And I heard a smack, smack, smacking
Of my hands a Norton thwacking
As he collapsed all bent and bleeding
Like a heap upon the floor.....
Alas poor Graham, NEVERMORE!
We can even shape the chameleon into a plumber if ya want!

Wow, old discussion but I thought I would but my unenlightened 2 cents in anyway. I know it's cheesy but without thinking too much about it I would say Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. I guess it wouldn't be too insightful or mind bending but I read a lot of celebrity gossip and I would LOVE to see how that would play out!

Unenlightened 2 cents? I've read your response and it's worth at LEAST a dollar! With those people coming all at once, I reckon you'd probably need a 4th guest that's well versed in martial arts and bodyguarding! It sure would be an interesting evening, that's for sure! Make sure you have a vide camera within reach too. Thanks for the response jess.

When am I coming from Egypt? Well, I wanna know what we're having first! Yes, this one was certainly raised from the archives like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes! I was very surprised to see it as I think it may have been the first discussion I ever started here! I never really thought about the enkightenment factor of the 3 combined guests before either! Jeez, I hope they all don't get so intellectually fired up that their heads explode! How the heck would I get Dalai Llama, Einstein and Robin Williams brain stains out of the tablecloth you think???

Great choices! It would certainly make for an interesting evening. Especially when you consider what Lincoln started and Luther King devoted himself to, so many years later! Missed this one from you James, but i am glad someone dug it up.
I think my choices would be:
1) Walt Disney - if there is a person that could inspire me, it would be him
2) Frank Sinatra - i really love his music and i would like to have a chat with him
3) Richard Dean Anderson - this is the actor that played MacGayver and also Jack O'Neill in Stargate series.
Yes, i think this 3 are a good choice for me - there may be other choices, but this is the best i could think of right now.

Back when I actually started this discussion, there were less than 20,000 members on mylot so I think there's practically an army of people that missed this one! This is an interesting choice! Walt Disney is no surprise as I knwo how much you love Disney! Frank would be great entertainment and very smooth; and MacGyver! He could make something cool out of all the left-overs I reckon! lol.

i've been thinking about this for days... I'm assuming you are discounting friends and family? I thought maybe 3 supermodels as I figured they wouldn't eat much ... I though Barney.... - roasting on a spit with a large turnip shoved in his gob, but that would just make everyone throw up and leave. I thought of 3 comedians but reckoned they'd all try to outdo each other so it might all lose its comic effect... no, too difficult to just pick 3. I give up for now...

Friends and family are of course applicable if that is your wont Wizzy! But supermodels as guests certainly means more dessert for ya! lol. And cooking Barney is one heck of an idea too by the way, but not with supermodels present otherwise you;re gonna have to eat a whole Barney by yourself! But then again, feeding his leftovers to a pack of rabid street dogs is pretty damn appealing! COmedians would be good too, but you;re probably right about the competitiveness. Catching it all on film could be priceless though! Thanks for the response.

Hard one, James.
First choice would have to be Terry Pratchett, because I love his writing and his philosophy, and I think he's very wise.
The Late Ewan McColl, songwriter, singer, playright, social activist, who probably none of you will have heard of unless you were into English folk music, but you'd know one of his songs, "The First Time Ever" and maybe "Dirty Old Town. G B Shaw once said of McColl, "Myself excluded, he is probably the most important British playright of the 20th Century". I consider him to be second only to Eric Bogle as a songwriter, and I can't have Eric because we don't actually get on all that well on a personal level lol.
Maybe Billy Connolly for third, although Ghandi might fight him for his place.
Alternatively the three women I consider the most beautiful and sexy of the last 20 years, Maria Nillson, Kyla Cole, and Evelyn Lory, but I'd have to say that conversation wouldn't be uppermost in my mind at THAT dinner party lol.

Given the set of women AND men examples you've just provided, 2 seperate dinner parties are in order for sure! Your first three choices are certainly interesting. To be honest I'm not familiar at all with Ewan McColl, but Terry Pratchett would certainly give your brain a good work-out. (It's Sir Terry now isn't it?) As for Billy Connolly, well he is one heck of a funny guy and married to an Aussie comedienne too! Can you imagine the fights he and his Wife would have??? Good God, they must be very sharp and sarcastic towards each other when the fur fly's! lol.
