in this fast-changing world, it is quite wrong on the part of people to sustain reading as a habit.
Reading kills motivation, brings lethargy, infuses dullness, inspires drowsiness..
I've a very negative [but true] opinion about reading.
It'z mere time waste...

It may be a true opinion for you, but not true for many people. For me, reading sparks my imagination, excites me, keeps me awake, makes me laugh, scares me, makes me think. I've stayed up late because I wanted to finish a book, so it certainly didn't make me lethargic. Reading about people accomplishing things motivates me to do more. I've learned a lot from books, so it hasn't made me dull. So, none of the things you've listed are true for me. Reading is one of the greatest pleasures of my life.

no, i don't agree with you. maybe for you, reading is boring. but for other people, like me, reading is exciting because it brings you to new places, introduces you to new people and gives you new ideas.

Seeing that you have such a negative opinion of reading, why are you on Mylot? Don't you need to read to be able to answer questions?
Reading is one of the most stimulating experiences in the universe. It involves concentration and also inspires learning.
It is true that it is a sedentary activity. It can cause drowsiness also, but so can watching television or listening to others talk.
How do you further your intelligence if you don't read? I think that it is an extremely stimulating hobby.

I will have to disagree. Reading stimulates the mind and today that is something our kids are lacking. Reading can take you places that you would normally not get to go and see. It opens a world to you one that you may have not ever have gotten to see. Books can take you back in time or into the future.

Let me be bold as ask you this:
Do you have trouble reading or did you have trouble reading as a child? I've noticed that people who dislike reading as much as you have stated have had problems reading.

Who are you to say that it is WRONG? It is wrong to kill people. It is wrong to drive drunk. It is socially unacceptable to pick your nose in public...but it is not WRONG. Doing something wrong usually implies that it is against the law or you will get into trouble for it. When could you ever get into trouble for reading? It is not illegal. It is not even socially unacceptable.
Just because the world is fasy-changing does not make it wrong. It just means that the world is changing.
How is it fair to say that since the world is changing that reading is wrong? I am no less motivated than any of my peers...i might even be more motivated. I am the only one of them that makes sure to fit reading in once a day. I am not lethargic. I am definately not dull. I have a better imagination than some children. I hold lively conversations with people. I have been known to be fun to be around even!
I will admit that when I read RIGHT before bed...when I am tired and about to go to bed...It makes me sleepy. Good job, you got one right!!!
And since when has an OPINION been proven true...just the opinion? You might luck out one day and find that one of your opinions holds some truth to it. Fact is truth. An opinion is how you feel. Just because you like your side doesn't make it true. I could say that this discussion is a waste of time. For one person it may be. For another it could have all the meaning in the world. Either one would not be wrong. It would just be my opinion.
Please, elaborate...I really want to know why you have such stong feelings on why books are so evil.

and I have to agree with the previous poster that brought up the fact that you have to READ these discussions to contribute to them. Do you just pretend to read them?
