It is very unfortunate that some countries are prone to earthquakes. In this case, there are several casualties and a tough time for Taiwan. I gave up on internet yesterday because the connection was so slow. I was quite disappointed when it was announced that things will remain that way for 3 weeks. I was delighted when I logged on my computer this morning and found that the speed was back to normal. How did they do it, I wonder.

You country has luck that your internet connection has restored to normal, but in India our ISP has not given any assurances till now. Still it is very slow.
But whatever it is, our heartly condolence for the ppl who have lost their lives in the earthquake.
In asia-pacific Indonesia, Taiwan, Andaman all these places have constant earth quakes.

Yes,very much aware of it because It was reported in the news and and people on the northern tip of Philippines experienced a quake of magnitude of 5.4 and the people were scared because of the probability of a Tsunami but the phivolcs(the ones monitoring earthquakes here in our country) assured them it was just an earthquake and there was no tsunami and they could come back to her homes since the police ordered the residents to evacuate upon hearing that report.

Yes, here in India from morning 01:30 am till 01:45 pm, the link was totally fluctuating and our isp was able to give us a very normal link of high latency only from 2:00 pm today.
They have not committed upon the complete resttorations time, as per the information received from network authorities of taiwan, it may take around 2-3 weeks for complete restoration.
I feel that the internet consortium has to look for alternate routes connecting asia-pac, now they are purely depend on hk-links.
Thanks for your post.

Thanks for your post, we really new this only when we had problem with our Internet Link to Korea. We reported our ISP (Sify) in the morning and they also tried a lot and after 30 mts gave us a news that Due to heavy underwater earth quake measuring a magnitude of 7.2 ritcher in Taiwan all the communition links connecting asia-pacific was disturbed. I think there us some thing wrong with 26 ( 2 + 6 = 8, "D I S A S T E R" ).

Yes, it that was very high (7.1) in the rector scale. There is another bed new for Indonesians where this Earth Quake claim 22 live and dozens of house destroyed in the quack. My sympathy for these people.

Is it restored, my god in India we are depending on Taiwan for various asia-pacific links, still our ISP reports that only top customers are routed rest all are still in the pipe-line waiting for best path.
Your country is so-fast. Thanks for your nation and thanks a lot for the team involved in Internet restoration.

I think there is astrological problem with the dates ( 25/12, 26/12) bcoz even last year Dec-2005 on this particular the Tide was very high in the shores of Tamil Nadu ( India ). The fisher men were given alert not to sail for fishing and people in the area was given alert regarding high tides. Mainly ppl leaving in the shores had sleepless nights. Even this in India (Tamil Nadu - Coastal Areas ) there was a slight change in the climate conditions, it was partly cloudy. So I think the world going towards the end.

Oh my god, it is really miraculas that the tremor is happening on the same day. There is something wrong globally even if we say it is supernatural, but still sometimes we may have to believe in this scientific world.

I am aware of this. My ISP's submarine cable in Taiwan was damaged by the tsunami. That is why I am having a hard time connecting to most international websites. My internet connection is also very slow. But that is of course nothing as compared to what Taiwan is experiencing now. So I just hope there will be no more shockwaves. I also hope Taiwan will recover fast.

We got affected as well. Our company was severely crippled when we were'nt able to access the internet. It was a major problem and we had to shut down our system during the last hours of operation. I do hope nobody got hurt badly.

We heard in the news that Philipines had tsunami alert an later it was withdraw. Almost all the links connected to asia-pacific regions was affected (As per the information from our ISP). Today nearly for 6-7 hrs no internet and later around 13:34 hrs we were connected with very high latency delayed.
We have received any news from our ISP regarding the restoraion of the Taiwan links.
