personally, i don't think they can replace phones because it's tedious when you are going to use internet phones. You have to turn the computer on, login, then dial. Whereas, phones just ring, you can immediately dial a number and then talk

I wouldn't say I was ready for the future but I agree that Internet calls will take over from normal landlines. Communication in general will make massive changes over the next few years - a whole new era.

i think that these systems are or at least could be the way of the future once a few problems have been sorted out. firstly the equipment appears to be very expensive and almost exclusive, i mean what if you do not have an internet set up a person could be excluded from these systems, and secondly, perhaps the technology itself needs improvement. For example, my university tutor has skype and has phoned me using the system, and i think the voice is not very clear to listen to on this system, i find it really hard to listen to this kind of system as yet, the sound needs to be made clearer.

I think internet phone like skype are the nearest future I think. Technology is improving so fast that the only thing that keeps it reaching the common man is it's cost.
I think we will be using Internet Phones in next 5 years, just like everyone is using cell phones right now.
