Gandhi's victory came in 1947 when India won independence. The subcontinent split into two countries (India and Pakistan) and brought Hindu-Muslim riots. Again Gandhi turned to nonviolence, fasting until Delhi rioters pledged peace to him. On Jan. 30, 1948, while on his way to prayer in Delhi, Gandhi was killed by a Hindu who had been maddened by the Mahatma's efforts to reconcile Hindus and Muslims. An epic motion picture based on his life won several Academy awards in 1983.

Mahatma gandhi was killed, as is the case with post other prominent people because of wrong judgement the the opposite side on the nature of the person. Nathuram godsay, as with many others who killed other popular leaders was innocently convinced by conspirators that killing him will do good to the the society at a large, hence we have lost another great person so soon.

nathuram godse did not like mahatma gandhi dividing the country and so he killed him. he wanted india to be one.

I object to the use of KILLED word ....u should have used assasinated....its better word ..kill is a humilating word for a personality we respect so mush ...pl correct it or atleast be humble to apoligise .... next time u will say why Lord krishna was "killed "(?)u know he was ....yes!!!!! other time u will say why Lord jesus christ was "killed "..... Because there are always going to be people out there that think it's cool to kill someone famous.

He was killed because few conservative people thought , (members of hindu mahasabha) he was biased towards muslims as he wanted to give pakistan an equal share from Indian treasurey too. He wanted partition to be an amicable affaire as he could see where all the bloodshed would lead to- so many years of voilence and time has proved him right.
