Lord Mountbatten was the viceroy of India at the time of Independence. He stayed in India even after independence to serve as the first of two governor generals( after 1950 the post of governor general was replaced by non-executive post of president). He had close relationship with Jawaharlal Nehru and Ghandhiji and even Jinnah(They ofcourse did not see eye to eye towards the time of independence because of the issue of partition).
He had earlier served in World war 1 and 2(played a major role in the planning of the D-day atack)
He was killed by the IRA(irish republican army) in 1979 when he was in his boat.
There is an interesting fact involving Lord Mountbatten his wife and Nehru. Lets see if anyone can come up with it.
