Reporting to Mylot when responses are not relevant to discussion topic.

United States

I am encountering many responses that are irrelevant to a discussion. I have been reporting them to MyLot for review. Even when I find the response in another's discussion I will report them. If you do not want to be reported for misuse, your response to a discussion should be one reflective of the topic. Coping and pasting is not acceptable. Also please note that negative ratings will be given to those who post one or two words as a response. If you have nothing more to say, do not respond to the discussion. Do not beg for a "+" rating. I will not rate responses to those who beg for ratings. I hope that other MyLot members will follow this lead.

I report responses all the time. It's too bad that there are so many people out there who will post something that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

I would like to discuss about a bug in mylot whenever a person opens more than 3-4 tabs of diff discussions (firefox), if he responds (while uploading a photo), then ur text sticks to other posts, and becomes irrelevent, as we cannot delete our response or edit it, our discussion is posted to another post i suffered from this many times, may the people you had found out were doing this only but were helpless as they can't edit their post

Thats a good thing to do. It will help mylot and its users as well. I got a irrelevant response the first day itself, to my first discussion. I reported it to mylot, but I guess they are on a Christmas holiday :) The post was still there the last time I checked. What happens to these posts. Are they deleted or the user itself is banned on mylot?

I believe they are banned. I reported an abuser not long ago. They were still posting lots of discussions. Then one day, the discussions disappeared.

It is good that they are weeding out the meaningless discussion. It makes it easier to find the better ones.

I think they have to get more than one complaint or negative rating, but I am unsure how many. I have also seen some frivolous discussions weeded out.

I can't say that this is a bad way to act. But it is a little bit tough. I care for good answers but some people are just unable to gu=ive them. Why punishing them so hard?

When I encounter a discussion that I really can't respond to in an intelligent way, I will pass it up rather than post a simple yes or know, or I don't know. I am not punishing anyone that makes an effort to post a response. I have seen too many reponses that do not relate to the discussion in any way, shape or form. If you do not have a response, do not post just anything in order to increase your earnings.

The fact of the matter is that even though MyLot staff receives a report regarding abuse, it is their decision to whether a member's earnings shall be reduced or if they lose their memberhsip with MyLot. MyLot encourages its members to report abuses.

Will do Elusive, maybe this will help in the effort to clean up mylot, when users realize they are not benefiting from there posts that dont have an relevance or posts consisting of 1-2 words. I for one will be tagging along with Elusive on this one.

Thank you Gia. After checking out the responses to my discussions, I found that in one particular discussion I had at least 5 people who either posted irrelevant responses or one or two words. I am sick and tired of these people. So, hence I posted this discussion!

I havent really been here that long and i feel your frustration. I didnt come to Mylot to make money, although it is a nice perk. I came to start and engage in discussions. And its annoying, especially when you go back to your discussion that you've started and you have weed through all the irrelevant replys and two worders to get to all the well thought out replys

Please also give - rating for some who are just starting stupid discussions without ever participating in other discussions.

If the article deserves a negative rating, we should give a negative rating. But, if it is a stupid discussion and you feel needs to be reported as abuse, then use the "!" key to do just that.

It is apparent that the main goal is to post for profit only and not to add to the growth of the MyLot community.

that's very good! i do that too..in fact, i just reported one member to myLot for abuse this afternoon...i was the first one who responded to that discussion and this member, 'morelo' actually copied some part of my response and pasted as his....at the 2nd response..i was so mad that i reported him immediately! i've seen some people who copied and pasted as their own responses and i do report them too! thanks for your discussion! hope that it could reach out to more and we could report them to myLot so that we can find more quality responses here! :D

I encounter the same problem a lot of times. People are cutting and pasting parts of other responses, or they just post things like " i agree" when even that makes no sense. I think the serious MyLot users should constantly report & rate them negative as for me this is the only way to get rid of those misusers ...

I believe that the reporting of abusers is going to happen more frequently. The members who are actually putting effort into their discussions/responses are growing tired of the people who fail to do the same.

A+ stamp - approval for job well done
Hoping that I am not one of your offenders. I do miss the mark a bit when responding on occasion. I understand your stance in reporting the abuse of a system we all belong to and hope we are proud of. The one and two words blurbs seem to be an effort to raise the numbers for making the title of Top User. Seems a shame that that would count! I will be vigilant for offenders that I come across. And please my fellow responders try to explain your point of view or expound on why you might feel that way! Thanks for starting this discussion!!

You are not one of the offenders. Check out the comment I previously made here, so I do not have to cut and paste. Cutting and pasting seems to be a practice that so many do and it is clear to me that it is solely for the purpose of increasing their earnings.

I'm on board with you. I've been reporting like crazy. Be sure to also use the + report, though. This helps the users who are playing by the rules. One of the new tricks that I've seen lately is people respond by pasting song lyrics or a poem which is totally not relevant to the discussion; it probably registers to MyLot as a good response, and they get paid. I've been going crazy reporting them in my discussions as well as when I find them in others.

We are on the same page my friend. I read the reponses of the discussions that I respond to as well and will report those who are abusing MyLot with the crap that they are posting.

I have been reporting those folks who persist in copying my posts and pasting them in as there own work ... I mark down those who reply with one word .. or with a stock phrase that they put in every reply they make ... and I try to give plus ratings to foklks who have taken the time and trouble to answer my discussion properly .. So far .. I might add .. I have never had any replies from MyLot about what is happening to the folks who are 'stealing' my original work posts ...

I've only been registered for a couple of weeks .. but I am quickly starting to work out who the folks are who just come in here to dash off a few words to as many posts as they can ... and I've already noticed a few names that I won't be bothering to post answers to as they are just firing off dozens of topics a day all around the same theme .. so clearly just hoping to make lots of MyLot money ... not get involved in community discussions I've even had one chappie copying and pasting my own carefully thought out replies word for word and posting them as his own replies ... cheeky beggar .. you know who you are and you have been reported ... I have carefully read all the responses to my own discussions .. so I'm just beginning to see what makes a good topic and what's just going to get a few replies ... In my own discussions I too will be giving minus ratings for those posters who just dash off a few words, often not even about the topic ... I do try to post thoughtfully ... but I don't always achieve quite what I set out to do ... but I am getting better :o)

yeah i think we should report them, those posts are considered spam.. so mylot wont be swamped with useless replies.. but i think mylot admins are also too busy to check all the spam.. hope they can do something about it..

You don't half to read the dicussions just move on to the next discussions. that's how I feel about it. It's not hurting you. what does it matter to you. I just ignore it. and you should too in other words mind your own bussieness.

In fact it is in everyone's best interest to tag those that respond to a discussion with content that is irrelevant to the discussion. Is it fair to those that post quality responses and discussions to have the cheaters come in and post, gain earnings and not put a single minute of thought as to what the discussion is about or the response they will give.

Brenda let me first state that I do not work for MyLot. I do not monitor everyone. When someone posts a response to a discussion that you have started, it should be a common practice to add a comment to the discussion. I am sorry that you feel that this is "monitoring", to me it is a courtesy to those who respond to a discussion. I always try to give comments and so do many other MyLot members. Thank you for dropping by and adding to the discussion.

I agree with you. It's annoying to see people who reply with a "yes", "no" or "I dont know" kinds of response. It seems like they only want the money without making any efforts. I rate this people a "-". I report rude and insulting discussions, and they were deleted! I'm glad I was being heard by the moderators. I certainly wont give a "+" to people who ask for it. Who are they to dictate me? I have my right to rate every response, and it is for me to choose which ones. Cheers! :)

Oh I know I have been reporting them as well. I had some I found that were posting just a period. That was it. That doesn't even do anything. Can't say that it was a one word post. I've been giving negatives to ones that are totally off topic, for example we are discussing pregnancy and someone posts about freedom of the press. That is way off topic, not even in the same ballpark. Some confusion can happen with people being from all over the world and with different languages but usually you can tell that confusion. Keep reporting that is all you can do.

I always give positive ratings to people who clearly have read the discussion and add a response that is clearly reflective of the discussion.
27 Dec 06
Just kidding! I'm so tired of it. I started giving "+" to all that stick to topic and with more than 3 words. I give a "-" to those that do not do this and I tell on them. It's stupid. MyLot also needs to get on the ball for deleting these people. I have seen many that I reported still there. What's going on?

This is a very good thing that you took up as your topic. I appreciate your ways of stopping these in mylot. But there are some people who in spite of knowing that this is not fair,i.e, copying and pasting will do that may be due to their insufficient knowledge about the language or some other reason. There is also another group of people who get such kinds of irrelevant responses, but dont report cause they think that it is not needed. If they do so it may give that person a negative rating or a cut in the earning which will make him feel bad. So better not harm anyone. Anyway I do support you and will do the same.

MyLot will only take content that is in English. If the material that the copy and paste artists is not their own, that is plagarism. I understand their wanting to increase earnings, but so do the people who post quality content and material that is their own. We could all do the same thing as those who cheat, but ethically it is not the right thing to do.
