Yes. I also learned from my mom. I'm not great at it, but I can do it. And I love doing things like making my son's Halloween costume every year and making some clothes for him (mostly pants). Since I learned by watching and helping, I'd love to be able to take a couple of sewing classes someday just to get a little better.
My mom is really good. She used to make barbie and cabbage patch doll clothes by just cutting pieces from scraps -- no patterns or anything. That's what we always gave our female friends for their birthdays. Hand made clothes for their dolls.

I can do minor repairs like buttons or small holes, but I have never really learned how to sew a whole outfit or something nor do I have the time to do it.

I used to sew beautifully, in fact I made custom wedding dresses in my home for 15 years. Then 5 yrs ago I broke my wrist and it didn't heal properly... effectively ending my career.
My Gramma Ruby taught me how to sew by hand when I was 8 yrs old, and wouldn't let me touch the sewing machine until I was able to make small, perfect stitches. She taught me that THAT was the most important part of sewing--- all of the finishing touches!!
I am trying to get back at least some of that dexterity... I try to sew some small thing every day. So I am like a beginner all over again!!
