Suggestions Please! My arm is killing me....

My right arm (and I'm right handed)is killing me. It's been hurting for months now..I am not sure what I did to make it start hurting, the only thing I can remember is playing with my son and he grabbed onto my arm as he was falling backwards...he's 10, 90pounds... I went to the doctor a month ago, and they told me I had tendinitous (sp). They gave me pain pills, and naproxen. It didn't help so I went back to the doc yesterday and he told me that I had a torn rotator cuff. He also told me that this is a serious injury and will most likely need surgery. And then I would not be able to use my arm for 6 weeks. Well this is NOT an option for me. I have all these kids and my old man cannot quit work (he's on a semi 3 1/2 weeks out of the month) so I don't know what to do. It REALLY HURTS. Does anyone have any suggestions on some pain relief? I really cannot have this surgery. I don't have any help with these kids... What can I do??? By the way, I have a 36 pound 2 year old that I can NOT avoid picking up, so "resting" my arm isn't an option either. And my kids don't do dishes, vaccuum or do laundry, so I can't NOT do those things either..lol...so, any other ideas??????? OH, and I do NOT have the money to hire anyone either....

Well there are other options. I have a friend who can not have surgery right now either and she is going to a physical therapist and a chiropractor. Both are helping her and she does exercises at home that helps. Go online and search some sites about this and I think you will find some help. I found one site right off. http://www.kylepalmermd.com/shoulder/shoulder-full-04.htm

Let's put it this way. If you don't fix your shoulder, it's going to get worse and the damage today will be worse later. Are you sure it's rotator cuff? Can you lift your arm above your head

Well, I am supposed to go for an MRI, but I've been putting it off. And yeah they are pretty sure, I can't lift it above my head or even straight out in front of me...it hurts SOOO BAD!!! I can't hardly do anything with it without it hurting. It's hard to lift it at all.

Oh boy.. Do I feel for you.. That is a serious injury. Did your doc xray you? because surgery is basically a last ditch effort. Do you think a sling would help you? If anything it will make you not use the arm.. I know your having a tough time taking care of all of the kids, but sweetie your going to have to do it one handed.. that shoulder needs to rest if you don't want to have the surgery. I'm sure the doc told you about icing it 3 to 4 times a day for 15 minutes each for swelling and pain. Maybe can he give you stronger dose of naproxin? meaning can you take an extra one? That is an anti imflammatory and will help with the swelling. If the Naproxin does not work I bet you can take Motrin, but ask first. I so feel for you... I know it is going to be soo hard but you can't pick up the 2 year old.. soak the dishes so they are easier to clean and just do a little vaccuming at a time if you really have to.. I hate mess too.. But maybe you can at least let it go for a little while. :( You can ask your doc for cortisone shots I'm sure. ASk him what he thinks about that. I have heard that really helps.

well...you need to surgery or you might lose the arm totally. you'll learn to deal and it will only be for a while. you'll need to start taking care of yourself for your children. bring in reletives and people to help. i'm sure the childrens father would want to help as well as your own family. but if its something you need...then you NEED to get it.

Not to sound harsh...but sounds like the kids are going to have to step up to the plate here. You cannot avoid getting your rotator cuff fixed....that would probably mean more issues down the road. Plain and simple....the family is gonna have to help! My kids are 4-1/2 & 10 they have helped me tremendously during times of need when I was just out of the hospital and hubby was working non stop...or mandated at work.. Don't avoid surgery....it would not be wise for you in the long run.

Well, I see what you are saying, but my kids are such brats, and it's like pulling teeth to get them to do anything. I'm so scared that I will have it and then they won't help me and I will be just stuck!!! Know what I mean? I just don't want to do it at all, but I know I'm going to have to. :-( Thank you for the response!

Wait a minute! Didin't you post 2 months ago your husband ran off with your son and that you are in the middle of a divorce? But now he's atill your old man? And if you were in as much as you say you are in how can you sit here typing away? Your stories are getting more incredible as the days go on. Are you a boohoo addict? Do you so desperately need people to feel sorry for you that you just post anything to get a few poor you responses? Geez!!
