Why is it singers who actually have talent are so underrated?

Call me old, but music is definitely isn't the same anymore. Where's the talent? I mean most of the pop/r&b singers can't sing. It's only the beats to the song that saves the song. I don't want to see another pretty face, I want hear REAL singing. Don't even let me get started on rap. Music is really going downhill:(. It is rare when you hear real talent, but when you do they are so underrated. I remember when Christina Aguilera came out. She could sing her butt off, but it was Britney Spears who got the attention who can sing to save her life. That sucked.

You can thank television for this. Before MTV, an artist had to have real talent to make it big. Now it seems all one needs is fake boobs, major bling, a gimmick or saucy gossip. It seems here is less interest in the music they produce than the lifestyle they lead.

Unfortunately today, you need to be good looking to be successful. You don't necessarily have to be able to sing.
