Allthough I love cooking and I can also cook well, but I dont know when it comes to making a cake, why I am an utter failure. My cakes taste good, but turns out to be hard. I am desperately in search of some good teacher who will teach me how to make soft spungy cakes and pastry.

Hello, I love to cook as well. What kind of flour do you use to bake your cake? Also, do you use any kind of leavening agents, such as baking powder or baking soda? I think that would help a lot with the texture of the cake, because if your cake doesn't rise, then it will be hard and flat.

I use plain flour. I do use leavening agents like baking powder, but I also heard that cakes rise even if such things are not used. Anyway I think it will be a try, try, try till you suceed for me.

I bake it in a micro oven or an OTG. Both of them show you the temperatures. I think 180 degree centigrade is the temperature that all cake bakers say.

You might try using buttermilk instead of regular milk and melted margarine or butter instead of oil and add and extra egg.
