how many languages one should know?

i think one should know mother tongue for local comminication and for global communication he/she should know english language. what you say about it,friends?

yaah i totally agree with you wonderfull lady ..he has to know at least his mother tongue and local communication language and other is global language that is english which is most imported if you travel arrount world.foe doing business around the world.....you can do better if you know the common language of area where you live. it will be better if know the multi country language you can earn lot from it.... if you don't know then atleat learn first three basic language....

i think if we know more and more language we will be benifited better so it is important to know many languages i know five languages that is hindi , english , tulu, kannada, and my mother tongue konkani, english knowledge is must so india is ahead of china, and about hindi it helps to communicate in india, kannada which helps me to communictae in karnataka, and konkani in our family or society, tulu helps to contact with localites.

i think atleast one language at a time... which could help u communicate locally... e.g. if u r an indian...then u have to be a master in hindi to communicate people... and if u go to america...then frget about hindi..try to be a master in english

Hi priya I am from india, you know each state has its own language, again each has several dialets, i can speak hindi, oriya, bengali , chattisgadi and marathi besides english, i taught in colleges using english while in Philippines i learnt littlt tagalog too.. There is no limit for that.......and one more thing english is not everything..as it is required but its part of once life and not heart of life....!

yes priya, there not enough to know one longwage. we have to know atleast 3longwages in india, because one is our mother tongue, second one our local communication longwage (it may be regional longwage), and a national longwage. if i say you all these longwage you have to know english because this wil give you identity in our society to become success in currier.

I think if you are in a country which not using English, at least we have to know minimum 2 languages. Your mother tongue, and English as international language. Because I was born and grew up in Indonesia, so I have to speak Indonesian, and English is become my second language. My third language is Chinese (because my grand mom and grand father are from China) but I only doing in conversation (I can't write and read Chinese character, only a lil bit :p) And in Indonesia, there are also traditional language besides Indonesia language, every city has their own traditional language... so people here at least can speak in 2 language, and if she/he can English, so become three language :D
