I have windows xp, 256 mb ram and 80 gb hard disk...55 gb is still left on my pc.but a window says my computer is running low on virtual memory...i don't think its a virus because i have got AVG-free edition and anti-spyware 7.5 full version plus tune up utilities 2006 and i scan often and update. My need for speed underground 2 (that worked just a few days ago) is not working...the game loads but then it just stays on loading.........is this because of low virtual memory if so...please help.

the problem is that you have too little physical memory. i'm even surprised that Windows XP works on only 256 mb of RAM. Still, if it does worke, you can be sure that when you try to open a game for example, your computer will either freeze, or the game will give an error like the one you're receiving and close. SO, for your computer to work properly, i recommend that you buy at least 256 mb of RAM, but 512 would definetly be better. Hope this helps, cheers

maybe that your system is infected with malware.Download and run spybot. In case of games, you should try using a graphics card. Also, clear up your windows paging file. For this, install any tweaking programme like ashampoo power up platinum

you can manually change the virtual memory size to double the size of your physical memory(RAM), and make sure you have more space in C: drive or the drive where your operating system installed, you should have atleast free space double to your RAM,

its better to format your OS partition and reinstall the OS you are using. This is the best way to get rid of this problem , again you are getting this kind of problem try scanning your hard disk.

I too had this problem. The service provider gives several reasons which are not convincing. I suppose it is because of insufficeient RAM.As I know, when we browse, some part of memory is saved as virtual memory. When that limit based on RAM exceeds the limit, it gives messege,VIRTUAL MEMORY EXCEEDS,SOME COMMANDS MAY NOT BE EXECUTED. You can learn yourself like this: Work with small breaks and see the messege will not come.

i am sure that ur computer is infected with spyware. try checking it out by pressing ctrl+alt+del and then go to the processes tab. look at the name of the task which is using the most memory and see if u are using it or not. if not, end it. i think this will help.

the way to change the virtual memory has already been said by many people in the discussion. u should keep the maximum and minimum size of the Virtual Memory for good performance. its better to choose a size 1.5 time the RAM. There is also the problem of fragmentation if u choose the pagefile to be in the system drive (C:) .. choose a different partition .. its better to keep a separate partition for page file .. to increase your system performance regularly defragment your system and clear all the junk data

well you say you have avg. but its not as good a antivirus as people think of it to be so the chances are that you really have a virus.even if you dont a 256mb ram is still very low aonsidering that upgrade to 512mb is comparable to geting your system updated. and if your the new o.s. vista i suggest you get your ram updated...because vista needs minimum 512mb ram....

virtual memory is, in a nutshell, where every webpage you visit, etc. is stored for quicker loading the next time you visit. it is why, after a while, your email's homepage may begin loading faster, or sometime you notice that if you are visiting a site for the first time, it is taking longer to load than a site you visit all the time takes. my advice however is to get more RAM, since 256 is quite literally nothing.

Yes, 1000 and 2000 is the best virtual memory setting to work with. I use that myself and have never had any problems at all. Also, you might want to upgrade your RAM.. minimum now-a-days of RAM you should have is 512mb That is a decent size, but as newer software, etc. comes out, you will need to upgrade again so make sure you have a motherboard that allows you room to upgrade. :-)
