Most people would say that no it does not, but I do not believe the issue has been studied enough. We tend to say no it does not I think because if it did you would see a lot of people with eye problems. It isn't that simple as a lot of people do have eye problems. Also almost everyone watches TV. so who are you going to compare to. We don't know any longer how many people would not have eye sight degenerate as they get older if they did not watch TV. because we don't have anyone to study. Also since so many people watch TV. There are not many scientists who would be unbiased to this issue.
I think everything in moderation is a good bet for most things. I have also found it very psychologically relaxing at least, to give my eyes time everyday to rest. I'll just sit and close my eyes for 10 minutes or so. It is very peaceful. I also spend time every day in silence to give my ears rest.
I do think people spend to much time watching TV. We spend so much time watching that we don't do all kinds of other things that could be just as enjoyable if not more, and probably would be more fulfilling in the long run.

I am not a fan of the television! I think it discourages the use of imagination needed to read a book and "picture the story" in your own mind.
I have a couple of shows I like, but if I never saw them again because the Television in my house disappeared...I'd be ok with that!
