I've only started wearing mine openly..I've gotten odd looks, but no one's said anything so far. I have noticed how people online associate it with Satanism..which is highly unfortunate, but I've done my best to educate people. Like someone previously stated though, it's really hard to unbrainwash some people.
It's a very beautiful symbol to me, and a few people who haven't even heard of Satanism or what my pentacle's associated with have told me my necklace is pretty too..so it all just depends on the area and how severe the brain washing is I guess lol.

A lot of this misconception, I believe, comes from movies and televisions programs. (Just like movies and television made people think that all Native Americans live in tipis and wear headdresses.)
It's funny too, because most Wiccans, that I know anyway, don't even believe in Satan.
I tell people that what I see is that the only real evil resides in human beings.
We choose, everyday, to be loving and caring or hateful and mean. That's our free will.
I wear my pentacle ring everyday, and sometimes a pendant.
Nobody around here really seems to react to them, except other Wiccans. So, I don't have to do much explaining.
When someone asks, and seems to really care about learning, I recommend that they read some of Scott Cunningham's books.

I always have my pentacle on and it seems like you and I are similar in the fact we both encourage others to research Wicca. I don't know if our reasons are the same though, for mine are to prevent them from getting a potentially biased opinion from me. I would rather they form their own opinions based on the knowledge they gain through research. I realise some information may be faulty but I give them the right to form their own set of thoughts both positive and negative as to enable them to retain their free will. Love and Light and many blessings be with you dearheart...Blessed Be

I wear a pentacle pendant every day. I seldom take it off. I have had some negative responses to it, but only from people who simply did not know any better. I have usually been able to give a brief explaination of my path and why I wear that symbol, and that takes care of it. I even had to go through that with my boss at my work. Someone had complained that I was wearing a "satanic" symbol and wanted me to stop. Of course, there was not much he could do from a legal stand point, as I have the right to express my religion, but he did call me in for a "talk".
Once I explained everything was fine, and another Wiccan in the office even started wearing her pentacle.
I also have a rather large one tattooed in dark blue on my stomach which shows through sometimes if I am wearing white.
You just have to be who you are, I guess. Explain when you can, and ignore the negativity of those who can not or do not wish to understand.

this is very true. i have had encounters in stores where children thought my pentacle was pretty then the mothers would say I was "evil". I feel if we have our voices heard, over time we can stop some of the ignorance in regard to our spiritual path. I want to thank you for standing up to the ignorance and helping to open eyes. Love and Light be with you...Blessed Be

bright blessings sister,
Yes indeed the ignorent do associate the pentacle with the worship of the Devil but i think this is the result of the propaganda put about by peoples of the book to scare off would be apostates than any rationality

Yes I notice it a lot. It's hard trying to unbrainwash everyone that the christians of late did to make the pentacle associated with the devil and satan.

A long time ago Christianity entered into competition with the old religion. They have done their best to condemn it and stamp it out. They took many of the Pagan celebrations and made them their own. Today the effort continues through television and moves but it has failed before and it will not succeed now. Be proud of your traditions and don't let the b....... get you down.

I just read an interesting quote on a different site and thought I would pass it along.
"My Goddess gave birth to your God."
