Sick dog

I have a dog labrador which is 15 years old. My dog needs special attention and many times falls sick. In a month atleast 5-7 times need to take him to a doctor. The doctor has suggested to put him to sleep. I love my dog very much and my conscious is not allowing this. But cannot see my dear dog go thru the pain everyday. Do not understand what to do?
