How Do You Stand the Cold?

6 years ago I moved from England to the Canary Islands (Spain) because I adore the sun, love being outside when it's hot and hate the cold.
I am spending Christmas at my partner's house in
Scotland and it is below freezing! It is lovely to see everyone and there are loads of good shops here (and all kinds of foods I can't get in the Canaries) but it is cold...and grey...and drab! I could NEVER readjust to living somewhere you have to shut yourself indoors for three quarters of the year because it is so cold and miserable!
If you live somewhere cold, how do you put up with the dullness? Don't you want to move somewhere warm and sunny?

I live in Wisconsin. We get snow and cold weather there! I love the snow -I wouldnt call that dulll at all. It isn't as fun when it's just plain cold w/ no snow though(like now)

I completely understand how you feel. I live in Toronto..Canada..and believe me it can get very..very cold here. I think that you just have to learn to adapt to it. You have to dress in layers to keep warm and try to get outside even on the gray days. Then when you are inside..maybe start a fire..listen to some music..or rent a good movie and spend time with those you love. I myself don't like it too hot..or too cold..but sometimes you just have to try your best to deal with what nature gives you...Happy Holidays!

WEll its really rejuvenating to be in a warm place but then sometimes i do enjoy the snow and the cold but for a short duration
You can never expect to live in a all year snowy country that will be like insane
But i usually hibernate during winters as bears as i find it as the best solution

My husband wants to move to a warmer climate. I will only move if my family does as well. I am close to them and would not function well if I were far away from them.

It's all about moving around the whole time....
Temperature is a physical property of a system that underlies the common notions of hot and cold; something that is hotter has the greater temperature. Temperature is one of the principal parameters of thermodynamics. The temperature of a system is related to the average energy of microscopic motions in the system. For a solid, these microscopic motions are principally the vibrations of the constituent atoms about their sites in the solid. For an ideal monatomic gas, the microscopic motions are the translational motions of the constituent gas particles.

I think you just have to learn to bundle up appropriately and you kind of get used to it.

I live in west Texas, it isn't too cold here too often. We consider it to be cold when it is below fifty degrees. I must say though, I love the cold, I hate the heat. It gets well over 100 in the summer here, miserable heat. You can't even get right in your car and go, you have to let it air out because it is so miserably hot. I would love to live somewhere it gets cold more often.

Where i live it`s not a matter of putting up with the cold we usually only have a couple of weeks of cool weather it`s more like having to put up with the heat and at time it becomes so hot it`s very uncomfortable outside .Air conditionong really comes in handy there .But during the summer heat periods i rearly go outside i have difficulty breathing .The cold i just rug up and as long as my feeet are warm i have no problems coping at all

I am originally from Dallas, Texas, where the weather is very hot in the summer and can get sort of cold in the winter. It occassionally even snows there. I thought that was bad and said that if I ever moved anywhere it would be in the direction of warmer weather. The extreme hot is almost as bad. I now live in Austin, Texas, where the winters are a tad bit milder. I could not imagine leaving in a dark, cold place. But if I did, I imagine I would spend much more time indoors, like you said.
I bet the Canaries are beautiful!
