What small or medium sized dogs aren't "yappy"?

I want a small dog so my daughter will have company, but I DON"T want a little yappy ankle-biter. Which types, medium to small, are good for kids but not the hypernervous kind?

Forget worrying about Yappy..it's a learned behavior.
How about a Basset Hound they are very laid back. Your best bet would be to look at your local shelter, pound or rescue. Then you can get a good fit for your family and save a dogs life at the same time.

Hi. Ive got a lakeland terrier, we have had her for 3 years now and she is brilliant. She hardly ever barks, even when she wants something. They are really cute dogs too, maybe your daughter will like them.

If you only want a dog for your daughter and already are worried about "yappy". Are you sure you need a dog. Does your daughter Want a dog? Do you live in a place that would be suitable for a dog? How will a dog help keep your daughter company? Is she alone a lot? If she does not truly desire a dog and hasn't been begging and crying and trying to bribe you for a puppy, how will getting a puppy help. Animals have feelings, souls, spirits. If all you need is a baby sitter, than get a human baby sitter. Don't subject a little puppy to someplace he might not be wanted.
I have volunteered at animal shelters, have rescued all 6 of my cats from being thrown out of homes, have cried all the way to my vet to put to sleep animals I found injured or sick that people no longer needed including my own sisters!!! just because my nephew was home alone to much.
Please think long and hard about bringing a new life into your home.

not all small dogs are yappy. it is not the dog but the owner and how the deal with the barking. you have to train the dog not to bark. it can be done. thanks to the dog whisper
