why say thank you..?

is it necessary to say thankyou when someone do a favour. isn't that formal?

You should say thank you when someone does you a favor because it is good manners and it shows the person you appreciate their efforts. If nothing else, just say it to make someone feel good. The world needs more people who are willing to make each other smile.
