you developed recently? I have never understood football, but I never gave it much of a chance either. Just thought I could never get into something where a bunch of burly men smack each other around. That is now behind me, as of today, I am committing to understanding this game and it's all because of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders! They can move...so tell us, what have you been trying to learn lately and what was it that ignited this interest?

I don't have to challenge myself to learning new things because I have been doing it all my life. One of my mottos is.....count that day lost that you don't learn anything no matter how trivial. Sports are exciting. There are very few that I don't like (especially boxing and wrestling). I played basketball in high school as well as softball, volleyball, gynmastics etc. I learned to like American football after I understood the tactics and the rules of the game. It is exciting, especially when your team wins. I don't like the Dallas Cowboys because they are a division rival of the Washington Redskins.

Well, I meant things you wouldn't normally do, like flying a plane..unless of course you're an airline pilot. Thanks for your comments.

One thing that caught my interest couple of months ago was Cryptic Crosswords. I have been solving crossword puzzles since I was a kid, but always used to stay away from Cryptic Crossword. I generally used to feel out of place whenever this was a topic of discussion.
Recently a friend of mine gave me some basic tips on how to solve cryptic clues and that got me hooked onto it. From then on it became an obsession for me to get a good grip on solving cryptic clues. I used internet to search for guidelines on solving these clues. I can safely say that I now know the basics of solving these cryptic clues, but I am yet to become an expert on it...so my quest still continues....

Sounds like that would be challenging considering I don't even know what it is. I can solve very basic crossword puzzles, anything else gets my head to aching. Are you still working in becoming an expert?

I recently took up rubber stamping - I know, I know - such a hard challenge! It is a lot of fun and I have spent far too much money on it in a few short months - but I figure I am saving money if I make cards and not spending 5-6 dollars on a card. I am impressed with your attempt to understand football - my husband has tried several times to explain even the simpliest things to me and I am still lost!

Sounds like in my house with football too. I am getting better though so everyone can watch the game in peace and not having me ask 20 questions. Rubber stamping I think was a great one to pick up. We have moved so far away from making our own stuff, and I think it's such a pleasure when we are able to share our handmade gifts. Good luck to you and thanks for participating in this discussion.

i never loved reading novels. i find them boring. however, this year, i tried to start motivating myself to read novels. and so,i did it! just a little determination to push myself to read helped a lot. i've read 5 books since june. i know i am not much of a fast reader but it felt good espencially when you get to finish reading a book. so,it;s a great new thing for me. next year,i will try and learn how to bake. i will study baking cakes and making pastries early next year.

As an artist/writer, i am always challenging myself with new perspective, media and attitude.I love to re-invent myself and keep my personal world ever-morphing. I felt the same as you did about football, I was always a baseball fan, until my states football team actually made it to the superbowl (Patriots,so it was totally unheard of,LOL), and I really got into the gladiator spirit of the whole thing! Good luck, I hope you enjoy it as much as I ended up doing!

Yes I like learning new things. I try to learn different languages for fun. I have also tried to learn dancing. I have never done dancing, but just tried some steps with the help of videos. It is really fun learning different things. I tried learning baseball. Cricket is the game, which our nation is crazy about. I never understood baseball, but tired learning it by watching through the television. Another big thing I like is computer games and video games. I tries to learn different games as much as possible.

Being a very curious person I stick my nose in places it shouldn't be but I learn a lot and that's what keeps me interested in things.
I learned to play guitar at 47 years old. I have loved music my entire life and would go mad if I didn't have music in my ears or head. It just helps to level me out.
I always envied others that could play music and finally, at 47, a friend brought an extra guitar to a party and I haven't looked back since.
I play every single day. The only time I haven't played since I started was the time I spent in the hospital after my first heart attack.
Even though I was not allowed to lift anything more than 10 pounds, or drive my car or go fishing. That's enough to give up right there, but I was allowed to have my guitar and I used it.
Finding new things to do keeps up young, so that grey matter in our heads keeps active.

I like to challenge myself. Recently I took up my driving lessons and I can say that I'm ready to drive alone. I'm hoping that in two weeks time, I wil get my non-pro driver's liscence.
