What's Up with the Rules for Protecting the QB? Isn't this the NFL?

I have noticed some pretty bad calls by refs this year when it comes to roughing the passer. Are the rules getting a little ridiculous with the interpretation by the refs? The inconsistency from ref team to the next just kills me when watching a game. I understand that the QB needs to be protected but this is Football!!! You risk things and as a football player on any position, there should be common rules, but aren't we going overboard with the QBs calls? I realize that Palmer was hurt last year and even returned quicker than anyone would have anticipated. However, you can touch a QB and it is an instant 15 yard penalty. It just seems to be getting out of hand.

It sure seems like a lot of the rules are geared towards favoring the QB, and hurting the defense trying to take him down. It almost seems like it takes away part of the strategy when you can no longer hit the quarterback. But I guess it is what the league sees as a way of protecting the investment. Most QB's are the lifeblood of their teams, and those teams wouldn't survive without them.

I have just witnessed calls that took the rules to the highest point without having solid evidence. I realize they are the leader that the team build around, but isn't this still football?? How about the NO call on Brady on Sunday with being speared? Makes no sense that sometimes the refs make it to the extreme and other times they miss it all together.

Unfortunately it does come down to money in many different aspects. I still think the QBs are acting like primadonnas about things though. Obviously you can tell a hard hit to the wrong area but when it is just a touch, the penalty gets used too often.
