female genital circumcision

I was horrified to read the statistics on female genital circumcision and the number of young girls that are forced to go through this procedure! Lots of these girls go through hell as a result of this; some even die from infections and suchlike. Why is this barbaric practise still happening in this so-called enlightened age!

I haven't heard of a country that practices this but this was an old practice before. Just as guys are circimsized to cleanse them, girls are circumsized too. But studies have proved that this isn't necessary this shouldn't be done anymore. This would be really painful because unlike male circumcision, females don't have excess skin to be cut off.
