Heard a lot about this VoIP thing, but i dont have any fair idea of what it is and how it works. I know its related to talking with other person on internet, but how? Do i need to pay for VoIP service or it is free like gtalk and yahoo? Help needed, please post your views.

VOIP stands for Voice Over IP, instead of regular telephone wires, voice now travels over internet with VoIP. Everything else remains the same. You can even use your old telephones to talk.
It is very hard to use VoIP over Dialup connections to internet. (It is still possible to use VoIP over dialup connection but the quality will suffer). You need to have Broadband connection, ie DSL, Cable. Then you also need an ATA = Analogue Telephone Adaptor, Connects an Analogue Telephone to a VOIP network Usually has an Ethernet jack, and an RJ-11 phone jack. Then you need an account from your VoIP provider, which will provide you with a phone number.
Then you can call anyone over the phone, to VoIP phones, your grand ma on a regular phone, and your friends cell phone in another country. Your VoIP service provider will handle all the switching like your telephone provider does now. And will also bill you the same. But usually much less of a bill.
