Do you miss the irrational fearlessness of your youth?

Do you remember how as a child you had no problem climbing onto the roof and jumping to the ground? How you would swim anywhere no matter how dirty the water..... That it didn't matter how big a hole was you would still try to jump it on your bicycle..... You did everything purely for the fun of it and never really gave a second thought to whether it was dangerous or that you might get hurt.... Thrill seekers and extreme sports people may have managed to keep this mindset but most of us haven't. Do you miss that way of thinking? I do. The fear of consequences has kept me down for too long!

I think there is a differentce between childhood's fearlessness and extreme sports thrills. While the former is based on carelessness and ignorance of danger -- and is part of the learning process of life -- the latter is mostly influenced by adrenalin addiction. People who practise dangerous sports thrive on the adrenalin rush that the fear of danger induces. They're far from the childhood models who are only dimly aware that whatever they are doing can be fatal, or at least harmful. This danger-consciousness is so addictive that it is believed to be one of the main causes for Vietnam soldiers to re-enlist for another tour of duty after their discharge from the armed service. The thrill of the danger was simply missing from their lives and they needed another 'fix'.

Thank you for your response Thomas73. I enjoy receiving replies that consider everything that was said.... Yes I agree that adrenaline is a motivator for some but I still do think that a certain fear element that some people develop is less prevalent in others....
