hi, i am really hoping you respond to me regarding an issue at my job. i work at parker seals division syracuse (formerly known as syracuse rubber products). my question is: what is the law about breaks? the entire plant gets 2 15 minute breaks in 8 hours....i work in a new department they created and it only has 3 people per shift.my supervisor rob slone told us we are not getting 2 15 minute breaks any more just 1 15 minute break in 8 hours. that is not fair. however his 1st shift people are gettin 3 10 minute breaks. it seems like he is picking on the 2nd and 3rd shift people. i almost got hurt last night due to being exhausted from lack of breaks. me and the 2 other people are working 7.7 straight out of the 8 for just 1 15 minute break. i feel our health and safety is being compromised. last friday i had a vacation day and when i returned last night i was told they didn't get a break at all because there was no one to relieve them. i was told personally by a scott carrington that in the very near future when that department is running like it should that we will not get a break at all. that is 8 straight hours of running hot presses with the risk of getting burnt and no breaks. i already got burnt numerous times already due to this problem.isn't there some kind of law or federal law against this treatment. my opinion is it is inhumane treatment to say the least. please email me back so we know what to do . thank you debbie bartels

Well, I am surprised at what I found on the Dept of Labor's website. I thought employers were required to give a break every 4 hrs, but not according to: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/workhours/breaks.htm
