necessity of being educated

i would like to know if a good education is really necessary to be successful in life coz i have seen many who r not so educated but still r successful eg from my childhood i had seen a small time carpenter he used to really work hard,he has studied only upto class 2 today he is one of the rich man in d city having his bussiness spread all over.there r so many instances like this.i have also seen many more who having been educated very well with brilliant marks r still on job hunt or r on streets. so what do u think is being educated really important?
