I am an American, who happens to be fortunate enough to live overseas in Italy. I have always wanted to visit Venice, and now I am afforded with that opportunity as often as I want. No matter how many times I have been to Venice, I never get bored, and I guess you can say I truly have a love-affair with this nostalgic city. I never tire of strolling the canal carved walkways, and amusing myself with the architecture and culture that oozes from every nook and cranny of this city. Does anyone have a story to share about their ventures to Venice? Any stories to share about goals and hopes for one day visiting Venice, Italy? Any interesting facts you wish to share that others may not know with regards to Venice? Any specific restaurants or stores you would like to recommend visiting for those planning to go to Venice? Please share... I've also written many articles about my travels to Venice, and for those of you who have never been there, let me lure and draw you in with one of my articles:http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/21202/snapshot_of_venice.html

We live up north, and summer time we love spending it down by the shores in Lignano. A little tid-bit of fact about the beaches and shores of Lignano is that the author Ernest Hemingway frequented that area often, and found it to be a muse.

I was in a relationship with a man from Siena and when I would visit him I would take day trips throughout Italy. My favorite time was in Venice...I loved, loved, loved the city...it was like being in another world. It's weird that I found this little church on a side street right before San Marco's and I went in there and it seemed to be a more transcendant experience than going into San Marco (although that was great too). I found Venice to be magical and can't wait to go back.

I always tell my friends and family, that even if you are not religious you must tour and view the churches in Italy. You can see why they are passionate about religion and tradition, and the beautiful frescoes that adorn them are just splendid.

I just went to Venice last October. It was a wonderful vacation. I loved everything about it. The shops were great and we ate nonstop. So much to do. I want to go back and do some tours. I will read your articles for some suggestion. thank you for this post.

October is a good time to go, because it's not too cold yet--though you may hit the rainy season. It is not too touristy during that time, so you avoid crowds. If you ever have the chance to get back, I'd suggest planning a trip during Carnivale (late February), now that's a definite fun time in Venice.

U are so lucky to be able to live in Italy! I love traveling and I would love to go to Italy someday, especially Venice. I think it's so cool that the city's transportation is by boats! Hopefully someday after I go to college I'll be able to visit and see the amazing sights!

Again, I think a trip to Venice, Italy is a definite venture to add to anyones "to-do-list". There is just so much there to touch a person on so many different levels--history, art, music, theater, religion, cuisine, eye pleasing beauty, and more.

You really have reminded me of a missed opportunity. I happened to be London on work for a few years back and from there my wife and myself were planning to visit Italy and see Venice. It was just that when we were about to make booking that my contract expires and I have to return to India. Venice, just seen in TVs and heard about the city from my friends who have been there, and it all sound so facinating like a city that can exists only in fairy tales. Hope next time I will be able to make it there

Well, I hope you get the opportunity to visit. I have to agree with you there is something almost whimsical enveloped in Venice. It is definitely very enchanting. I love the opportunities to go and mingle with the local Italians there and absorb more of there culture. Both my husband and I come from Italian ancestry, so to see the difference between American Italians, and what you find here is fascinating.

Wow that sounds like fun can you speak Italian or can you get by with English there. I always wanted to visit Italy and Venice would have to be on the list when I do go since I am 3/4 Italian. Is it better than Rome also how is the nightlife there? I hope to go to Italy on my honeymoon someday.

Before we moved overseas I taught myself and my 3 children enough Italian to get us by. Now that we have been here for some time, you pick up even more. But, Venice is a tourist area, and they are prepared to accommodate tourists so you find many who speak a bit of English. The nightlife in Venice has a variety of things for you, you can attend an opera, the casino which has a rich history, restaurants, night clubs and more. Rome is beautiful, but I recommend you do rome with the help of a guide, because if you don't you will be lost and it is so nice to have someone there to speak to you about the history and so forth. If you have the time make sure you go to Cinque Terre--that is a splendid and even romantic trip. The Tuscany region is my other favorite aspect of Italy.

Yes, I am familiar with this type of pizza. I'm originally from New York, and most of the authentic pizzerias there have a sicillian flare.

But, if you want to taste a kind of "squared" pizza with pieces of tomatoes and vegetables you must go in Messina (Sicily). I love this food!
