Yes its very possible for many reasons. Its more likely to get a false negative than a false positive.
Some reasons are because you might be testing too early, you might be using a brand that isnt sensitive enough or your body may be one of the few that dont produce enough HCG hormone to make a pregnancy test read positive.

I haven't ever had a false negative myself, and I've always tested the day after a missed period. I suppose it depends on the test, but my doctor told me that the home ones have become so sensitive, that they're as good as the blood test.
That said, a false negative is more likely than a false positive, so it's always best to check it out with a doctor, if you suspect you're pregnant.

Home pregnancy tests have always been accurate for me, thankfully. I've only been pregnant once (again, thankfully) and the test was accurate with that one as well. I knew I was pregnant before doing the test though...my body was behaving completely differently than ever. I made an appointment to see my doctor immediately...which is something I would have done anyway, if the test had come out negative...SOMETHING was definitely up with my body. I did however, meet a pharmacist once(who sold me my first at home pregnancy test) and told me about how whe had done numerous at home pregnancy tests which had all told her that she was not pregnant when in fact she was. That's my scoop.

My sister in law used the pregnancy test and test came back she was not pregnant. She didnt have her period for 4 months. One day, she had pain that she couldnt move so she went to the hospital, she was in fact pregnant but baby was growing outside the womb and she lost the baby. I guess it didnt show up on the test since baby wasnt growing in right place.

When I was pregnant with my first son, I took tons of tests and they were all negative until. Finally I had one come up with a very faint positive line after about a week of wondering what was going on. But they say any line is positive, so I took it as that, and nine months later, I had a baby!

pregnancy test kit for home use has some limitations...infact if it is used properly as per instructions then we can decrease its limitations...it should be ideally used for early morning urine samples...the urine sample should be of mid stream...one should keep the imprignated streap for atleast 5 minutes and then color changes should be observed in day light with naked eye...although it will not detect the pregnancy of less than 40 days duration..actually this test is meant for testing the levels of hormone(estrogen and progesterone) in urine..which r generally elevated after 40 days of pregnancy..though individual variation will be there....
