Thank you for caring! That is great that you give to Goodwill and Animal rights. Those animals can not give a fight for themselves so it is important that we fight for them. Thank you for the post and have a great day!!

Not really to charitable institutions. We have quite a number of relatives who are hard-up. To them, we give our old clothings, most of the souvenirs when my mother comes home from a trip, provide educational assistance for, and financial assistance most of the time. It also seems like, in our neighborhood,we have become a charitable institution in itself. For some reason, our house seems to be the only one in our street that's gets visited frequently by beggars and homeless people askin for food, clothing, money. Oh, I hear one at the gate now. hehe

That is great!! That is one of the issues that I have with America, they are so hell bent on saving the starving in other countries when there are literally thousands starving right here in America. Why worry about a world away when there is need in your back yard. You and your family are great you take care of your back yard before you worry about your neibor's. Thank you for being great! thank you for the post and have a great day!!!

On a small scale, taking care of your own would probably be a sound humanitarian act, especially when the ones your taking care of are your relatives. It's also hard to drive away someone who knocks at your gate with a 6 month old infant in tow, with a pitiful story to tell. Compassion compels us to act selflessly. But, when your dealing on a global scale, you have to consider dipomatic and political factors. For a superpower like your country, whose social services department is probably most efficient than most of the superpowers, that already says a lot about your country's ability to take care of the less fortunate. Your already doing great, doing your share of helping out, just keep it up! Have a Great New Year!

I always try to do my share, but I always remember what is most important to mee. I will never take food from my children to feed someone elses' with the exception that it was agreed by them, but I have taken my food and given it to someone else. there have been times where I have not eaten for days to ensure that my children eat, this is what I ment by the America thing. If I am unable to feed myown children and keep them warm how can I with a clear conscience feed and house the neibor kids?!? I do understand the democratic/political approach. But there is need right here in our own back yard. Charity begins at home and reaches out. Thank you for the post and have a great New Year!!!

I donate clothes and toys, also i give money to Saint Jude and the Disabled Veterans, and the World Wildlife Fund. I donate canned goods for the local drives and save boxtops for education for my daughters school. I also have been known to go and buy food for people i have seen sitting on the roads with signs that say will work for food. I think it is important that we try to help those less fortunate than us, we need to remember that we are all human and everyone needs a hand once in awhile.

Great thought and wonderful ideas. If there were more people like you in this world it would be a wonderful world. So many people waste so very much like they think that giving to charity is the plague. Yes, everyone needs a hand at one point or another in their lives, even the billionare Bill Gates needed assistance when he was stating out.

Yes, I do; sometimes, a little too much according to my mother. I work with a school for disabled children in Kampla, Uganda. I send them clothes, school and art supplies, toys, and so on. I send them candy canes every Christmas. I also give money to Traprock Peace Center and the local animal shelter, especially when they are tabling in front of my local grocery store collecting supplies for the animals in their shelter. This, of course, excludes, my regular charitable contributions.

Wow busy, busy!! But as I have always said, as long as my bills are paid and there is food on my table I am not giving too much. Sounds like you have a kind heart, I just hope that your kind heart never gets used. Those donation tables get mee all of the time. It is sad when you spend 5 in the store and 10 outside the store. Thank you for the post and have a great day!!!

Congratulations to you. Good Karma will come back your way for your generousity. I too give, but because my finances don't always allow me to give that way. Instead I volunteer my time to organizations that help others in need.

That is a great way to donate since without people donating time like you my donations would not exist. Great karma for you!! Thank you for the post and have a great day.

I think that to always donate it is to contribute so that it continues the precarious situation in our country. I do not say so that they do not make donations but that they think well before voting, therefore the responsible ones for such situation are the governors of a country.

I used to, to churches, telethons, coin boxes at the grocery store, Santas at Christmas, but now I'm kind of jaded. Over the last ten years I have worked with the needy and the psuedo needy on a one to one basis. Sadly, so many people who do not need assistance expect, even demand, their fair share. It killed my giving spirit to be approving people for need based benefits when they owned their own homes, drove brand new cars, were in school getting doctorates, wore more gold and diamond jewelry to one interview than I've owned in a lifetime, had professionally done hair and nails and would ask me to wait while they answered their cell phones and complained that they can't afford to pay their cable/internet bill. Now before I help someone I ask myself are they truly needy, or are they just not willing to give up the luxuries to which they have become accustomed? Whenever any of my children tell me they can't meet their bills I tell them they have two choices -- reduce their bills (give up the luxuries) or increase their income (get a second job.)

Oh wow you have gotten jaded!! I am so sorry to hear that, but there are still other charities out there that do not deal like that, ie: American Cancer Society, Muscular Distrophy Association, Amnesty International, etc... I can so fully see where you are comming from, I know some people like that, drive a 2006 Lexus and collect food stamps, there is so much welfare/charity fraud out there and it is a shame that people become jaded because of these cheats, but really what is a person to do, there are so many NEEDY people but they are way outweighted by the GREEDY. Well thank you for the post and have a great day!!!

I will give any unwanted stuff to charity as it may be a help to someone else. I usually give a lot to the Macmillan Nurses but if I see anything I like or need that is appropriate then I will but it. I always put pet food in the trolley at the shop for the local charities and give to sticker sellers. I like to give regular amounts to my favourite charities, if we all gave a litte more here and there this world would be a better place.

Thank you so much. If it werent for kind and generous people like your self, the american cancer society would not of been able to help me get my mother to and from chem, and radiation. They gave me a 30.00 gas card once a month to help me, and they sent people to our trailor to build a wheel chair ramp.

Thank you for te kind words. I am so glad to hear that the ACS has helped you and your mother. I hope that she is well!! The ACS also helped my brother and my mother in law in much of the same way, minus the whole wheel chair ramp idea. This is part of the reason that I enjoy donating to such places, they reach many not just a few. Be good to yourself and your mom. Thank you for the post and have a Happy New Year!!

I am selective about who I contribute my money to--as we all should be. Take the time to make sure your organization gives most of what it takes in to the needy and not to the executives and overhead of the organization. you will be sick when you understand how much of this money is squandered and not given to the people it is intended for.

I often donate clothing and other items to some of the local charities around my area. It is nice as they pick up once a month from our street. Typically I will leave clothing and some small items that I do not need anymore. I also recently gave some of my furniture to Goodwill and they mentioned something very interesting. They mentioned that over the past few years, donations have gone down and they attribute part of it to bidding sites such as eBay. People appear to be more financially strapped and are helping themselves before helping others by selling their items for some extra cash rather than take the tax break. This was very interesting to me and I can see how this could be tru.

Helping others or help yourself?!? That is quite a delima. The sad part is that those that give are usually those that need, those that sell usually could afford to just give?!? Kind of makes you think huh?!? thank you for the post and have a great day!!

I think that it is not the best way to help somebody, but always that I can I make donations the intituições of charity. However I think that the best form to make this is to vote certain in the governing of its country. Therefore They yes have the obligation to take care of population of its country well.

I forgot to mention in my reply above that I also have in the past supported and volunteered at a soup kitchen. This was years ago but hopefully in the future I will once again donate my time as this is truly a great way to give back to the community.

Well Poors are also humans and humans have no difference. We must help the poors more and more.I had experienced that more you give and more you will get or more you save more you lose.So following this quotation i also help poors with something that i have and they dont have it.

I give to two primary Charities each year: The March of Dimes and Elton John's AIDS charity. During the Holidays I give to the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign also. I give to at least two red Kettles every time I'm shopping During the Holidays.
